Operational Resilience Lead

We are looking for an experienced Insurance and Lloyd's market professional to take responsibility for leading our Operational Resilience capabilities, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, alignment to market practices and achievement of AUL's strategic ambitions.

As an insurance firm we simply won't be able to function effectively without operational resilience capabilities. Through your leadership and in-depth knowledge of regulations, critical vulnerabilities and the complexities of our industry you will ensure we understand, respond and proactively strengthen our ability to withstand severe disruptions as well as mitigating critical risk factors. This role will be central to the development and embedding of our resilience framework internally and in collaboration with our key partners.

What you'll spend your time doing:
While there is rarely a 'typical' day as the Operational Resilience Lead, here's a snapshot of some of the key parts of the job, in which you will lead the team responsible for developing, embedding and managing the framework, tools and methodologies in line with market practices, regulatory and business requirements:

Operational Resilience Leadership

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead our Operational Resilience team, tools, practices and capabilities, focused on continual maturity and improvement to ensure business needs, industry trends and regulatory requirements remain aligned. Provide robust internal and external performance measurement and reporting.
  • Embed Operational Resilience framework, standards and practices, developing communications and training to support adoption, awareness and maturity within the business
  • Develop strong stakeholder relationships with and support them in ensuring we collectively adhere to regulatory requirements, this includes SMF24, Executive Management, Important Business Service Owners (IBSs), Critical Resource Owners and their teams, as well as MS ABS and our business functions in Lines 1, 2 and 3, our service partners, market and regulatory bodies
  • Lead the team and business in management, review and annual Board approvals of our IBS in line with policy and following any trigger events
  • Establish and run the process to monitor resilience of our IBS and critical resources, including the development and monitoring of metrics across IBS and Critical resources
  • Set up and manage the process to ensure Impact Tolerances remain appropriate working with relevant owners and stakeholders to review, update, approve and embed in frameworks
  • Lead the scenario testing strategy across all IBS including maintaining the catalogue of scenarios, running the scenario schedule and incorporating findings into the Operational Resilience frameworks
  • Oversee the continual assessment of vulnerabilities across IBS and Resources, preparing recommendations for remedial activities, prioritisation and business cases for funding
  • Responsible for production and maintenance of the Self-Assessment Document, annually and as requested, ensuring it is meets regulatory requirements. This includes co-ordination of all inputs, reviews and approvals at Owner, Executive and Committee level
  • Lead our Incident Management and Response processes, including identification, resolution, root cause analysis and recommendations, reporting and incident co-ordination.
  • Develop and run the Operational Resilience governance and supporting processes, co-ordinating and managing the Operational Resilience Committee, supporting papers, routine and incident related reporting to other Committees, annual attestations and approvals, remediation progress overview, issue and decision escalation.
  • Develop best in class supportingcapabilities, tools and metrics to support evolution and embedding of the Operational Resilience framework
  • Build out the approach to managing outsourcing risk and operational resilience requirements for our key service providers, considering all other relevant regulations also. Work with our Contract Owners, Procurement and Vendor Management teams to oversee, strengthen and embed controls and oversight to mitigate risks.
  • Establish and oversee the vulnerabilities remediation roadmap, covering current vulnerabilities identified and plans to support newly identified vulnerabilities. Working with the Remediation Project Leads, Head of Change Delivery and Operational Resilience co-ordinators in our key service providers, in addition to governance for all vulnerabilities which are risk accepted
  • Represent Operational Resilience in AUL forums, in industry and market groups and with our service providers to advocate for Operational Resilience, identify potential impacts and act as an SME
  • Act as the Operational Resilience SME and internal consultant to our business as usual, strategic and change agendas to ensure our approach remains appropriate and is embedded in business developments
  • Embed Operational Risk Line 1 focus within our practices, projects and governance. Assess and lead on new requirements, proactive focus on managing operational risk factors and regular reporting. Work collaboratively with our Line 1 operations internal and external partners, Line 2 Risk and Line 3 stakeholders.
  • Represent AUL and our Brand at industry forums, market groups and potential capability providers
  • Ensure we maintain the right Operational Resilience Policy, Standards, processes, tools and controls for our business

The Operations Resilience Lead reports into Head of MS AUL Operations.

The job holder will also work closely with the SMF24 - MS AUL COO, IBS and Resource Owners, MS ABS, other senior stakeholders and with counterparts across Operations, Line 2, Line 3 and Service Providers to monitor and resolve issues and align capabilities with resilience monitoring, management, remediation.

What you'll need:

For this particular role there are some important qualifications and experience we need you to have. These include:

  • Detailed knowledge of the Operational Resilience Policy Statements and related Insurance practices
  • Demonstrable experience in Operational Risk, Operational Resilience and Business Continuity, Crisis Management and IT Disaster Recovery tools, practices and methodology
  • Significant experience in building teams and capabilities in a direct and matrix environment
  • Experience in shaping and delivering regulatory change
  • Excellent interpersonal, stakeholder and communication skills
  • Adept at building dynamic solutions and tools, from requirements through to embedding

This role sits within our Reinsurance Franchise at Lloyd's (MS AUL) which specialises in Mergers & Acquisitions and Property & Casualty across London, the Middle East, the Far East and continental Europe.
