Primary Responsibilities:

As a Senior Accountant within our Regulatory Finance - Accounting and Reporting division, your role will include independently achieving a variety of responsibilities in one or both of the following job functions:

Financial Analysis
  • Prepare and analyze business and financial metrics, on a forecasted and reported basis, for assigned legal entities throughout the year by working closely with the internal stakeholders
  • Prepare and analyze premium deficiency reserve evaluation models for assigned legal entities

Financial Reporting
  • Prepare multiple, complex quarterly and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, changes in capital and surplus, statements of cash flow, and supplemental financial exhibits pursuant to Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP), which are based on Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Prepare the annual audited financial statements and documentation in support of external and internal audits, and Department of Insurance inquiries and examinations

Additional responsibilities for this position include, but not limited to:
  • Prepare supplements to statutory filings and other state supplemental filings
  • Participate on a working group to develop innovative approaches in department process, projects and initiatives for continued improvement in efficiency and effectiveness
  • Solve moderately complex problems and/or conduct moderately complex analyses, including nonstandard requests
  • Perform work in a self-directed manner
  • Serve as a mentor and resource to others

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or equivalent
  • 2+ years of accounting experience
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Proven ability to assess and interpret customer needs and requirements
  • Proven ability to collaborate with peers to share best practices and complete projects
  • Demonstrated technical and functional skills necessary to prepare, review and analyze financial statements
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and organize workload to meet multiple hard deadlines
  • Demonstrated drive and motivation to deliver high quality results based on thorough analysis
  • Demonstrated solid analytical and problem-solving skills


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in financial statement preparation and/or audit
  • Experience in financial planning and analysis
  • Experience with Hyperion SmartView and PeopleSoft Financials
  • Health care experience
  • Understanding of SAP and accounting for regulated entities

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary/hourly range for Colorado residents is $54,400 to $97,000. The salary/hourly range for Connecticut/Nevada residents is $60,000 to $106,700. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
