Commercial Finance Business Partner (CFBP) role reports to the Head of Finance for one of the two divisions (Future Living or Future Passions).

The CFBP is responsible for the financial management of a number of print and digital businesses (that may change depending on business requirements). He/she will have a detailed understanding of the areas of the businesses they support, providing business partners with accurate financial reporting information to assist decision making, supporting planning, budgeting and forecasting in these areas and providing insight to better understand the risks and opportunities in their business areas.

The CFBP is a commercial business partner for those business titles under his/her responsibility, working collaboratively with the business and operational teams on various business initiatives and dealing with business queries and requests, as well as a link between the finance department and the business.

The CFBP has accountability for the full P&L, balance sheet accruals and prepayments for the titles under his/her responsibility.

The CFBP will work collaboratively with other finance teams - FP&A, Commercial Revenue, Market force, Overheads and Balance Sheet Control to ensure all reporting requirements are achieved and information requests are delivered accurately on a timely basis.

Key Responsibility:
  • Finance Business partnering with the Business teams to drive performance and execute business strategies. This includes proactive questioning, financial modelling and provision of relevant data to enable decision making and support long term plans
  • Provide insightful analysis and KPIS to drive operational performance
  • Support the Business teams in operational activities requiring finance input
  • Work closely with others in the finance teams in preparing accurate monthly
  • accounts, reviewing outputs and delivering commentaries, which provide insight into business performance.
  • Work closely with others in the finance teams in preparing the mid-term financial plans for business owners and support the development of local operational plans to support the financial expectations. Ensure that the business is accountable for the plans.
  • Work collaboratively with FP&A to capture the mid-term plans in the central repository and provide commentary on performance, risks and opportunities.
  • Maintain rolling forecasts supported by immediate threats and opportunities. Use these to support the month end close
  • Work collaboratively and proactively with business and functional teams to ensure that variances to budget/forecast are minimised. Maintain a no surprises environment.
  • Provide support to projects and other ad hoc initiatives to deliver improvement and efficiencies.

  • Commercial industry experience, with an understanding of the media business
  • Bright, energetic and self-motivated with a rigorous approach to work who builds strong relationships with individuals across the business.
  • Team player who is able to communicate and collaborate across Finance, business and operational teams, including the ability to quickly absorb and apply new information.
  • Proactive approach to work, with an enquiring mind, and the willingness to take ownership of complex/difficult tasks
  • Able to withstand pressure, staying calm, with an ability to think clearly.
  • Effective prioritisation of workloads and initiatives which deliver results in a timely and relevant manner.
  • Possess a positive attitude to change, drive to improve processes and the ability to challenge and support across the organisation at all levels
  • Strong analytical skills. The role holder must be an advanced Google sheets/Excel user and experience of using Netsuite, Oracle, TM1, Adaptive or similar systems would be advantageous.
  • Proven ability to present complex financial information, to various stakeholders in the organisation in a clear and easy to understand format.
  • Good knowledge of financial reporting and internal controls
  • Qualified Accountant ACA/ACCA/CIMA
