Job Description
  • The team's responsibility is expanding to support valuations across rapidly growing funds under management (covering assets spanning a wide range of sectors and growth stages)
  • You will work closely with a variety of teams including ventures, alternative investments, real estate, renewables, and AIM.
  • You will interract with a broad range of stakeholders, including senior management; fund managers; boards; investors and the FCA.
  • Valuations is a core accountability of the team and this is a critical position given the need to ensure independent oversight for all proposed valuations via the Valuations Committee.
Role Purpose

About the role:

Lead the independent valuations function responsible for all valuations processes, policies and associated activities for Octopus managed products and funds.

Deliverables
  • Take the lead across the business for all matters relating to valuations; owning and managing relationships between different product teams (including Octopus Renewables Ltd which now sits within Octopus Energy)
  • Main point of contact and responsible for day-to-day execution and ongoing enhancement of all valuations workstreams - including regular quarterly and bi-annual valuations engagements; quarterly Valuations Consistency Group proposals, quarterly bad and doubtful debt (B&DD) reviews; proposing the monthly share prices for Octopus Inheritance Tax (OITS) products; and ad hoc analysis as required.
  • Responsible for coordinating the Valuations Committee, owning governance and acting as Chairperson (ensuring efficient agenda, papers, minutes and Terms of Reference management, and acting as a voting member).
  • Deliver ongoing valuations training across teams, ensuring best practice and IPEV principles are applied consistently across all valuations prepared by the business.
  • Seek and deliver opportunities to continuously improve and streamline valuations processes to meet business and regulatory requirements as AuM and product offering grows.
Qualifications
  • Excellent track record leading valuations assignments across a range of sectors (experience within infrastructure, renewables and venture capital would be advantageous).
  • Strong technical knowledge of valuations principles and best practise (including IPEV).
  • Experience of leading and supporting individuals and teams to deliver workstreams under time pressure.
  • Brilliant communicator (written and spoken), comfortable working with stakeholders at all levels and able to clearly summarise complex issues.
  • Demonstrable skill and experience of efficiently managing and prioritising projects.
