Brookfield Asset Management Inc. ("Brookfield") is a global alternative asset manager with approximately US$625 billion of assets under management and a 100 year history of owning and operating assets with a focus on property, renewable power, infrastructure, insurance and private equity.

The Reinsurance Team ("BAM Re") oversees Brookfield's insurance and reinsurance activities worldwide, especially in UK and Europe. BAM Re is growing rapidly and is currently comprised of over 50 employees with substantial assets under management.

The Vice President role presents an opportunity to assist in the identification, evaluation, recommendation, and management of insurance investment opportunities. This role is ideally suited to a self-motivated individual seeking a dynamic work environment. You will prepare the analysis, business case and supporting bid documentation to help develop and execute complex transaction opportunities and in addition assisting in developing business networks to find new investment targets.

The Responsibilities For This Position Would Include The Following
  • Assist in supporting the business development and transaction strategy
  • Lead industry and market research to support the development of investment strategies or identify transaction opportunities
  • Help establish the investment thesis and identification of value creation strategies and assist in developing ideas for a transaction / deal structure
  • Lead the financial due diligence process including overseeing modeling and valuation and analysis prepared by junior colleagues, including actuaries
  • Working with operational teams, lead the execution of the due diligence process for a transaction that supports the validation of the business case supporting an acquisition and identify key transaction issues
  • Working with legal, tax and other internal teams, lead the transaction execution process, including ensuring transaction documentation and structuring are consistent with the business case
  • Prepare investment committee presentation material and other documents such as bid letters
  • Work in a flexible, dynamic, and team-oriented working culture that fosters collaboration, personal development and mentoring and skills development of junior colleagues
  • Conduct special projects as required
  • Network and develop new investment ideas to grow the business
  • Assist in organization and co-ordination of large working groups to complete the execution of a transaction
Requirements & Qualifications
  • 7 + years of relevant insurance experience in either/both the buy and sell side; private equity experience is a strong asset
  • Experience in complex European/UK insurance transactions (M&A, closed books, reinsurance etc) and with a deep understanding of both assets, liabilities (matching adjustment and volatility adjustment), regulation (Solvency 2) and capital structure
  • Ability to work independently and pro-actively in a fast paced environment
  • Strategic and long-term thinker with strong analytical, and creative problem-solving ability
  • Team-oriented; excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop collaborative relationships at all levels in the organization and external stakeholders
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong leadership skills; ability to provide direction and coaching to team members
  • Meticulous attention to detail is essential
  • Additional European languages an advantage
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a very fast-paced environment with firm deadlines
  • Self-motivated and proactive, both with respect to managing workload and own professional development.
  • Passionate about private equity and principal investing
