As a Head of Payroll you will need to have:

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage own workload and that of others
All aspects of payroll legislation
Previous experience in a similar role essential
Have a flexible approach to work in an ever changing environment

THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT WILL BE HEADING UP A FAST PACED TEAM COMPRISING OF HEAD OFFICE PAYROLL STAFF AND A NUMBER OF BRANCH ADMINISTRATORS WHO CARRY OUT BOTH MONTHLY AND WEEKLY PAYROLL. DEALING WITH ANY PAYROLL ISSUES/COMPLAINTS AND LEADING AND SETTING AN EXAMPLE FOR THE TEAM..

To manage the weekly Temporary payroll for all temporary workers
To oversee the Payroll supervisors, Payroll Assistants and the Payroll & Fleet Administrator
To work with the Payroll Supervisors to ensure the prompt processing and payments of Tax Credits, Attachment of Earnings, CCJs and Student Loans etc.
To ensure that payroll deadlines are achieved
To ensure that all issues regarding PAYE, NI, SSP, SMP, SPP and SAP are resolved promptly to the satisfaction of the Inland Revenue and Workers
To review and oversee the processing, calculation and reconciliation of the End of Year balancing of PAYE and NI to the deadlines set by the Inland Revenue
To oversee and assist in the validation and auditing of data from the Branches
To oversee and assist in the investigation and rectification of any exceptions
To oversee the annual processing of P11Ds and P60s within Inland Revenue and Company deadlines
To review information prepared by the payroll and fleet administration before this information is sent to other business users
To liaise with Branches to ensure the accurate and timely payment of wages and deal with any issues promptly
To ensure that any payroll queries (directly or indirectly) are resolved promptly
To liaise with other stakeholders in the business to rectify matters
To review overpayments and ensure timely recovery, or, if recovery is not possible, authorize timely write-offs
To ensure that all paperwork and correspondence is filed logically and securely and in accordance with company and legal compliance
Work closely and problem solve any issues relating to the TBS scheme in conjunction with other Head office staff
Overseeing the processing of all DD mandates and associated reporting
Work closely with other stakeholders to deal with investigations
Responsible for liaison with external auditors and professional advisors
To review current procedures and practices and make suggestions for improvements
To be the key point of contact for the operational staff in all payroll issues and to elevate any issues to the operational directors
To hold quarterly meetings with the operational directors to resolve any issues and communicate any changes
To manage the day to day performance of the team and deal with any performance issues including any discipline and grievance in conjunction with the HR department
To attend any payroll or taxation seminars and subsequently train the rest of the team
