Job Title:
Head of Audit & Assurance - permanent position

We are currently recruiting for a Head Of Audit and Assurance for our client, a company which transports both Young and Adult prisoners. This includes both Escort and Custody Services

Based at either Scotland or Manchester

As the Head of Audit and Assurance it is your responsibility to provide assurance on the quality of service delivery and safety of those to which we have a duty of care.

You will be responsible for developing and executing the Operational Audit activities of the business, partnering collaboratively with the operational business, compliance and HSE colleagues, to design, develop and implement appropriate, effective and efficient audit scope, deliverables and processes.

Your role includes review, report and to contribute to the wider quality and safety agenda in the business and contribute to the continual improvement mind-set at the core of our organisation.

You will place a high level of importance on your role as a leader, ensuring you lead by example, that the team receive guidance, have clarity on roles, responsibilities and priorities and provide regular feedback, appraisals and development opportunities.

Duties include

Ensure the audit framework and activities of the team meet the requirements of our stakeholders, including any legislative obligations whilst pragmatically applying resource where risk is identified
Create a framework to ensure the scope and contents of team activities are updated periodically to reflect stakeholder requirements
Schedule and chair audit planning meetings, including monthly refresh of the plan, integrating feedback from Account Directors to ensure the team are deployed where our risks are
Undertake periodic audits (dip-test) to assure that the execution of duties by the audit team are in line with the company's expectations
Ensure that via engagement with the Business Improvement team, appropriate & specific focus is placed on items currently subject to Operational improvement actions within our contracts (Audit Action Plans - SCCPES & Improvement Plans - PECS)
Ensure audit outcomes are accurately recorded and escalated in line with agreed protocols
Ensure there is a robust process to ensure feedback from audits is provided into responsible managers with regard to proposed revisions to SOP's
Play a leading pro-active role as a member of the SOP committee to ensure our procedures, against which your team will audit, are fit for purpose and regularly reviewed and updated to ensure we remain the market leader in custodial services in the UK
Undertake analysis of audit trends to identify key learning and areas of improvement and best practice, and feedback into the responsible Regional Managers and Account Directors
Review audit feedback from external audit (Customers, Lay observers, Independent Inspector of prisons) to calibrate our internal approach to drive consistency in results
Recruit, train, mentor & develop the audit team to meet current & future business requirements
Implement consistent team governance processes (team meetings, 1-2-1's, appraisals & reviews)
Empower team members to challenge current processes, take ownership for actions and deliver resultsThe rate of pay is open depending on experience
