Join the County of Sonoma as the County Payroll Manager! 


Starting salary up to $64.80/hour* ($135,245 year) plus a cash allowance of approximately $600/month*

 

The County Payroll Manager oversees the accurate and timely processing of payroll for the County's approximately 4500 active employees and is responsible for the direct supervision of a few management level staff, as well as the overall management of a team of eleven.  As the County Payroll Manager, you will also oversee compliance of all applicable federal and state taxation and labor laws related to the payment of wages. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with other Agency partners to ensure correct interpretation, application and implementation of policies and compensation
  • Advising County departmental staff on application of multiple Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs) and one Salary Resolution, which guide salary and benefits of County employees
  • Working collaboratively with Human Resources partners in the creation, explanation, and implementation of salary and benefits
  • Managing and preparing major financial reports, budgets, and accounting operations

The next County Payroll Manager will bring a passion for implementing process and system improvements to better serve the County and its employees. The ideal candidate will also possess:
 

  • Expertise with Microsoft Office applications (with a focus on Microsoft Excel) 
  • Significant experience with and in-depth knowledge of payroll software's, including direct experience with High Line ePersonality and Kronos timekeeping systems used by the County 
  • Experience managing complex budgets, accounting processes, and financial reports
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Experience with wage and hour laws related to governmental agencies
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate with the public, governing bodies, and multiple local, State, and Federal agencies
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks short-term and long-term projects while balancing competing and challenging priorities
  • Experience leading and managing staff including hiring, training, goal-setting, and employee development
  • A Certified Public Accounting (CPA), Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP), is highly desired but not required
