Te Puni Kōkiri is the government's principal policy advisor on Māori wellbeing and development. By drawing strength from our past to create an Aotearoa New Zealand where whānau can all stand, thrive and belong we work within government and communities to achieve our vision of Thriving Whānau.

You will report directly to the Deputy Secretary and take ownership to ensure that the Ministry has a robust, highly effective, responsive, and future looking Finance Directorate.

The Finance Directorate has five key functions and provides Te Puni Kōriki with:
  • timely and accurate financial information to meet the external financial reporting requirements
  • leadership in the area of financial management, so as to contribute to on-going improvements in organisational performance
  • specialist financial knowledge and expertise is shared with business groups to ensure financial strategies and policies are successfully implemented across the Ministry
  • an efficient financial management administration service, including an accounts payable service, purchasing, maintenance and other administrative services
  • an oversight of procurement and contracting processes including running tenders, negotiation of terms and contract preparation and assisting the Ministry to meet its state sector obligations.

In this newly created role you will lead and inspire the people in your directorate, with a focus on performance and engagement. You have two Managers as direct reports and there are currently two teams - Commercial & Procurement and Finance, with four and eight staff, respectively reporting to the managers. .

To achieve great outcomes in this role, you bring:
  • demonstrated leadership of Finance, Commercial and Procurement functions across the public service
  • proven experience as a member of a senior leadership team
  • a reputation for thinking strategically, and the ability to influence and engage others
  • demonstrated ability to make 'it' happen by managing work priorities and achieving outcomes through others

A relevant Commerce or Finance tertiary qualification is required., along with membership with Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ), or equivalent body
