The Team:

The J.P. Morgan Asset Management Equity business is looking to recruit an ECM Specialist to support the Equity Business in EMEA/US/Globally. The Equity business employs around 500 investment professionals who collectively manage over USD750bn of assets on behalf of our clients.

The Role:

Internally the successful candidate will have significant interaction with groups including Portfolio Managers, Research Analysts, Equity Dealing team, the Broker Relationship Management Team, Equity Business Management, Investment Directors, Guideline Management teams, Compliance and Legal. Externally the candidate will work closely with sell-side ECM desks of our key equity broking partners.

As an ECM Specialist the applicant will become familiar with the various investment strategies that the Equity business manages globally. The role requires building relationships with Portfolio Managers to understand their investment ideas and with our ECM contacts at Brokers in order to manage the ECM process with the aim of carefully managing MNPI and other risks whilst ensuring we are informed of all relevant deals in a timely manner. Additionally the applicant could be expected to play an important role in broader business activities such as product launches, transitions and other business management activities.

The role will be based in London.



Responsibilities:

  • Work in a collaborative way with two other colleagues based in other regions and Portfolio Managers, Equity Traders, the Broker Relationship Management Team and other relevant teams globally.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with key sell side ECM desks in order to ensure we are informed of deals as early as possible.
  • Demonstrate a clear focus on controls to mitigate regulatory, operational and reputational risk when wall crossing and participating in deals.
  • Work with Portfolio Managers to understand their investment process and maintain a list of companies/sectors that they may be interested in.
  • Work across business lines on occasion in order to provide support (e.g. Operations, Technology, Compliance).
  • Produce regular periodic reporting on market activity, wall crossing numbers and deal participation.
  • Provide input/suggestions for projects to help improve the effectiveness of the team.
  • Build good relationships across many departments to facilitate resolution of problems/queries in an efficient manner.
  • Maintaining procedures and remaining up-to-date with regulations, internal policies and best practice.

Qualifications:

We are looking for a candidate with the following attributes:

  • 5-7 year experience in relevant buy or sell side Equities roles.
  • Good understanding of how the equity markets function, previous experience around ECM would be an advantage.
  • Experience and understanding of private v public side of Equity trading and the rules and regulations that govern MNPI.
  • Very risk aware with a control oriented mind-set.
  • Assertive with strong communication and relationship building skills.
  • High level of numeracy and attention to detail.
  • Experience in working in a global organization.
  • Flexible attitude in supporting people based in different time zones.
  • Highly focused and can maintain a consistently high level of concentration and attention to detail.
  • Able to work independently, accurately under pressure, within tight deadlines and able to effectively and efficiently prioritise work flow.
  • Pro-active approach to work to prevent problems occurring.
  • CFA or equivalent qualification preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Back-Office functions and the life-cycle of an equity trade would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of client guidelines and various regulatory regimes an advantage.
  • Good MS Office skills (Preferably to Advanced Excel level. VBA understanding is an advantage).
  • Languages: Excellent communications in English, other languages would be an advantage.
  • Has a questioning nature, challenges anomalous figures or procedures.
  • Is willing to accept high responsibility.
