Scope of Role

This is a great opportunity to join our Divisional Finance team as we continue to develop our global business partnering to the Packaging business, with a particular focus on supporting the Global Operations Director and the wider operations function.

This role will provide the primary finance support to the Operations Director, business partnering on initiatives, new projects and ad hoc queries. The role will have an active and influential impact covering management and financial information, developing reporting systems, analysing operational costs, controlling capex and reviewing returns, reviewing monthly reporting and quarterly forecasting/budgeting and to drive improvements in all areas. This will enable senior management to make more informed key business decisions.

Main Duties

  • Provide the primary support to the Operations Director, providing finance support to initiatives, new projects and ad hoc queries. Provide the coordination for global finance projects including putting in place, driving and bringing insight from initiatives at regional and site levels.
  • Managing and reporting on operational costs through the monthly reporting cycle. To enable transparent and consistent reporting across the division, driving improvements and efficiencies to be delivered by the operations teams. This will involve review of cost comparisons to budgets and prior year though bridging processes.
  • The above will enable further improvement in operational metrics such as production costs per volume or per sales output so that benchmarking and best practice can be identified.
  • Capex control, tracking and reporting within tight annual cash targets. This will include monitoring of actual spend and also looking forward to evaluate and quantify projects that are in the pipeline so that effective resource allocation decisions can be made.
  • Reviewing capex returns and payback analysis. Supporting current/future capex proposals but also implementing a post-review process to ensure we are delivering the benefits from past projects that were envisaged.
  • Supporting relevant operational elements of working capital reduction such as inventory.
  • Running the operational elements of the quarterly forecast and annual budget exercises.
  • Supporting and challenging the procurement function with their actions to minimise supplier spend and material usage.
  • Reviewing and coordinating gross margin improvement activities and efficiencies to ensure we are delivering the benefits planned.
  • In addition, this role will be an integral part of the wider Finance team, supporting the month end and budgeting process as required and undertaking ad hoc work when needed.

Skills and Attributes :

You should have the following skills, experience and/or qualifications:

  • Qualified accountant - ideally 3 years post qualified (CIMA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent) with good academics & experience
  • Experience of working within the manufacturing sector and ideally experience of operational support
  • Experience of working in fast paced, dynamic environments and able to work effectively under pressure
  • Experience of working with stakeholders of differing levels of seniority up to and including directors across finance and non-financial stakeholders driving best practice performance
  • Ability to work as part of a larger team and at times be prepared to take on work outside of the role as required helping the team meet deadlines
  • Advanced Excel skills to enable manipulation of multiple data sources to deliver detailed analytics. Use of Power BI an advantage
  • Good PowerPoint and presenting skills, comfortable presenting to, and receiving challenge from, senior management
  • Ability to achieve objectives in the face of resistance and ambiguity, whilst maintaining strong relationships
  • Ability to demonstrate Influencing skills across colleagues of differing levels, both internal & external to finance
  • Self-motivated and able to work autonomously
  • Commercially intuitive and proactive in identifying areas of improvement and working on own initiative
  • Highly organised / structured approach, with the ability to co-ordinate a large number tasks simultaneously
  • Highly pragmatic - ability to use process / structure appropriately to achieve high quality results in required timescales
  • Ability to quickly identify the underlying root cause / principles of a situation
