  • Providing strategic input, driving best practice, continuous improvement and innovation at process and procedure level with respect to Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) for the group
  • Maintenance of the risk governance mechanisms, i.e., risk policy, risk management framework, risk tolerance matrix, etc
  • Entrenching the governance mechanism and adherence thereto of the processes and outputs as contained in the policy and framework within the Business Units and Countries
  • Facilitating on-going enterprise-wide risk assessments and mitigation of risks and ownership thereof among all Business Units and Countries

In accordance with the Enterprise Risk Management framework:

Assist to collate the Group Strategic Objectives and 3-Year Roadmap,
  • Assist to identify and consolidate the enterprise risks at Group level where applicable,

Driving the quantification of Risk Appetite and Risk Tolerance levels

In accordance with the Enterprise Risk Management framework; support the SA and International business as well as Support Functions to:

Monitor the business specific risks to the strategic objectives contained in the EXCO reports,
  • Facilitate the escalation process through reporting and via the Isometrix system

Preparation and Maintenance of Risk Registers and Materiality Matrix

Own the ERM system (Isometrix) and drive system usage, changes to the system from an ERM functionality perspective
  • Ensure reporting of risks to the Head of Treasury, Risk and Assurance, EXCO and the Board is done in the required timelines and at the right frequency
  • Preparation of all ERM Reports to stakeholders when required (EXCO and Audit Risk and Compliance Committee (ARCC))
  • Providing input into the insured and uninsured risks of the company

Combined Assurance (CA) -
  • Ensure ongoing implementation of Combined Assurance
  • Own and maintain the Combined Assurance policy and associated governance mechanisms, i.e., terms of references of the CA committees, CA maps/plans
  • Assist all Business Unit CA designated person to convene their Business Unit CA committees and get them functioning as required
  • Build close relationships with relevant assurance providers (as per policy) to ensure an integrated and coordinated assurance activities
  • Oversee the Combined Assurance activities of the various CA committees as defined in the Combined Assurance policy
  • Coordinate the Combined Assurance activities across all the operations of the Group
  • Coordinate the Combined Assurance activities required at Group (Finance, IT, etc) as per the Combined Assurance policy
  • Oversee the review of critical processes (ensuring efficient use of combined assurance capabilities)
  • Develop appropriate and relevant management information around the output of the assurance area to provide Exco, ARCC and the Board with a clear picture regarding the issues/ actions and key risks
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and advisor to the leadership and management team on combined assurance related issues ensuring adequate and regular communication around assurance initiatives
  • Provide key inputs into Board committees that oversee the enterprise risk management process and combined assurance activities

Insurance -

Management of the Insurance Function and Insurance brokers too Implement the group insurance strategy / initiatives to optimise premiums

Strengthen and enhance relationships with Insurance brokers
  • Develop Group insurance policies and SOP (standard operating procedures)
  • Report on all insurance related matters, claims, administrations, settlements, group covers to various audiences
  • Manage group annual renewal programme with the broker
  • Conduct annual insurance roadshows, changes to insurance policy and group covers
  • Manage group insurance underwriting surveys and reporting of recommendations & oversight management
  • Arrange and co-ordinate ad hoc insurance cover

  • Graduate / Postgraduate with minimum 5 to 10 years of experience in Risk Management and Combined Assurance
  • B-degree in Risk Management or Commerce (NQF level 7)
  • MBA would be advantageou

  • A minimum of 5 to 10 years risk and combined assurance proven leadership experience within a corporate environment
  • A background of managing enterprise risk within a listed company
  • The ability to engage with (senior) stakeholders across various functions
  • Strategic vision, credibility, and gravitas to positively challenge and coach upwards, horizontally as well as own leadership team members and to facilitate the effective working of leadership teams
  • Experience in working with different cultures across Africa is advantageous

  • Comprehensive Computer user skills in the MS Office suite and related systems
  • Strong problem-solving skills, organizational skills, and communication (written and oral) skills
  • Ability and acumen to work with sensitive and confidential data

  • Single point of reference for enterprise risks, including evaluation thereof and mitigating actions
  • Group 3-Year Road Map support by Roadmaps per country and Group Support Functions
  • Prepare relevant submissions for EXCO, Board and Board committees
  • Agreed actions/initiatives delivered within cost, timeline, quality expectations and agreed objectives
  • Group Strategic Risk & Opportunity Map with related strategic projects, activities, and owners for execution
  • Optimum insurance coverage through adequate insurance programs/policies
  • Overall co-ordination of Combined Assurance activities for the Group
  • Set up and good functioning Combined Assurance committees
  • Oversight and support to countries' combined assurance committees and activities
  • Maintenance of the risk and combined assurance governance mechanisms
  • Ensure business units and countries are aware of requirements to adhere to the risk governance mechanisms
  • Manage costs within approved budgets
  • Optimisation of the Insurance Function in conjunction with the Insurance Broker
