About This Job

Commerce Bank is seeking an experienced credit leader to be located in our Dallas office. The Texas Regional Credit Officer serves as the key resource in the on-going management of credit risk for Commerce's commercial loan portfolio within the Texas market. Since expanding into the Texas market in 2018 we've had tremendous success building our commercial portfolio, primarily in middle market and larger companies, across a variety of industries. This position will help drive the Commerce Bank presence across Texas.

As the Texas Regional Credit Officer, you will:
  • Review, evaluate and discuss credit relationships, applying the Bank's formal and informal credit underwriting standards and metrics to both the existing loan portfolio as well as prospective commercial loan opportunities
  • Review loan requests and annual reviews in order to provide feedback, assistance and training to market leadership, commercial bankers, portfolio managers and bank trainees in the areas of credit analysis, cash flow analysis, credit structuring, loan administration and documentation, collateral analysis, etc.
  • Coordinate with Commercial Loan Operations to ensure that appropriate loan documentation is drafted, executed and maintained as required by internal policies and external regulations
  • Ensure transactions are in compliance with Credit Policy, Bank Policy as well as all applicable Federal and State regulatory laws, policies and procedures
  • Participate in external meetings with bank examiners, customers, prospective customers, peer banks, industry trade groups and others as needed
  • Participate in the loan collateral monitoring process, including reviews and customer collateral audits as needed
  • Be responsible for continued monitoring of the credit quality of the Texas commercial loan portfolio
  • Oversee the quarterly watch list process for the Texas loan portfolio as well as monitor and administer past due loans, and participate in the commercial loan workout process and monitoring of selected relationships as needed
  • Review, decision and monitor overdrafts and ACH transactions, as necessary
  • Support and provide leadership in all aspects of Commerce's Credit Culture, Credit Risk Appetite as well as the Commerce Edge Corporate Culture
  • Participate in Credit Administration and Bank wide projects as assigned
  • Communicate decisions, priorities and relevant information to appropriate levels of staff effectively
  • Travel 30% to 40%, typically within the Texas market
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge Skills & Abilities Required
  • Strong knowledge of credit administration, credit underwriting, commercial banking and financial analysis
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work across the organization and interact/influence/negotiate effectively at all levels of management and peers
  • Ability to think critically, solve problems, make decisions and build trust across the company and effectively envision, develop, and implement new strategies to address competitive complex business issues
  • Ability to remain adaptable and resilient to all situations with an optimistic outlook and cast a positive shadow that is aligned with our culture and Core Values
  • Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or related field is required (MBA and/or Banking School are highly preferred)
  • 10+ years of experience in lending, underwriting and/or analyzing complex loan transactions
  • Working knowledge of commercial collection laws
  • Strong understanding of banking laws and regulations
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory expectations and customary credit policies and practices
  • Understanding of industry cycles as well as credit cycles
  • Extensive problem loan management, commercial loan workout experience and related negotiation skills
