The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) is a ministerial department which sponsors and works with 15 Arm’s Length Bodies to lead the health and care system in England, enabling people to live more independent, healthier lives for longer. It has one of the highest spending portfolios in Government, including a ‘Resource Departmental Expenditure Limit’ budget in excess of £160billion and a Capital budget of just under £6billion across the Health Group.

We are now seeking a new Director General Finance who will play a vital role in the overall leadership of the DHSC group and who will be instrumental to the effective financial management of consolidated accounts and financial operations, NHS and DHSC/Arm’s Length Body financial reporting, NHS revenue and capital planning, including structured finance and NHS debt/equity policy, Public Accounts Committee/National Audit Office accountability and our fraud prevention and prosecution drive. You will also oversee one of the Government’s key manifesto commitments (building 40 new Hospitals) through the New Hospitals Programme. And all against the backdrop of managing the Department’s financial performance and ensuring financial control and discipline continues to improve.

There is no doubt that this is one of the most significant and exciting Director General Finance opportunities in Government, offering the chance to have a real impact on the effective delivery of essential services to citizens. If you are an outstanding individual with a proven track record of successful financial management in high profile arenas with the ability to cut through complexity and deliver results, able to build strong relationships and successful coalition and with a track record of inspiring teams to deliver great results day after day then we would like to hear from you.

We are collaborative in how we work with each other across the Department and all our Arm’s Length Bodies, and all our staff are continually building expertise which will be critical to all areas of DHSC’s work. We particularly encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds
