Job Purpose

AVEVA is a FTSE 100 software company headquartered out of Cambridge, UK. The Group Finance team work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment and we have a need for assistance with high quality data analysis, interrogation and manipulation.

This role requires someone who is mathematically inclined, technically proficient at manipulating data in Excel and has an excellent eye for detail. Good communication skills are also important as you may be required to explain financial information to non-Finance personnel and may need to engage with stakeholders for supporting information and detail behind postings.

There is no requirement for an undergraduate degree, although a relevant degree demonstrating either analytical prowess or accounting knowledge would be of benefit.

Key Accountabilities

There will be a number of daily, weekly and monthly tasks that you will be expected to deliver or assist with, including – but not limited to – the following:

  • Preparing forecasts and monthly financial reporting packs, based on trends and known future fluctuations to budget.
  • Analysing financial information from subsidiary companies within the Group.
  • Assisting with identifying and aligning different cost posting practices across the Group.
  • Performing variance analysis on locally reported numbers, then working closely with subsidiary finance teams to identify and correct or explain differences.
  • Analysing patterns and anomalies for regular reporting to senior management.
  • Creating and improving standard reports, as well as creating ad hoc reports as needed.
  • Attending training on and becoming an adept user of our financial planning tool Planning Analytics.
  • "Mucking in" with the rest of the team, overlapping workloads so that holidays and absences can be adequately covered.

In addition to tasks specific to you, there will be an expectation that you will be willing and able to assist the wider finance team with ad hoc projects or at certain times of year – for example, pulling together and reviewing parts of the Annual Report, or other year end activities / analysis.

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Excellent and efficient Excel skills, with demonstrable knowledge of common functions and formulae.
  • Highly numerate with the aptitude to spot trends and exceptions within data sets.
  • Familiarisation with basic Word functions and be able to type reasonably well, with a good grasp of spelling and grammar.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound and reasonable judgement.
  • The sensitivity and trust to work discreetly with confidential employee and market-sensitive information.

  • Some accounting knowledge or background, or an interest in pursuing an accounting qualification (ACCA/CIMA).
  • Ability to explain and simplify complex/financial information for non-experts.
  • Organised and methodical with high attention to detail.
  • To be able to plan and cope with planned and unplanned activities in order to meet immoveable reporting deadlines.
  • Enthusiasm and assertiveness for working through problematic situations.

Applicants are encouraged to briefly detail their skills in a cover letter.

The recruitment process will involve a mix of interviews and a task. All of our recruitment is done virtually.
