Due to the upcoming retirement of the current Chief Financial Officer, the Town Manager is seeking a professional, dedicated CFO who will be an important part of the Town’s leadership team, experienced in governmental accounting, a forward-thinking self-starter, a great listener, and a motivator. The incoming CFO will foster a climate of good government, will be respectful of others, inclusive, and encourage diversity. This individual will promote an environment where staff is comfortable being creative and sharing ideas, knowing they will be carefully considered. The ideal candidate will give assignments and set broad performance parameters, monitor progress, expect results, and hold employees accountable. The successful candidate will recognize talent, mentor, and be confident to step back and let the staff do their job. 

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, public policy, or a related field and 7 to 10 years of increasingly responsible experience as a senior-level government executive. A master’s degree is preferred. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation and license to practice in the State of North Carolina is preferred but not required. Qualified candidates must be designated as a Certified Municipal Finance Officer (CMFO) by the State of North Carolina or be able to obtain certification within two years of employment or meet exemption requirements.
