The Team

We are seeking an Accountant to join American Tower's External Reporting team. The External Reporting team is responsible for a broad range of financial activities at a publicly traded company, including preparation of Securities and Exchange Commission ("SEC") filings, including Forms 10-Q, 10-K, 8-K, proxy and registration statements, debt and equity offerings, and standalone statutory, compliance, and other financial statement filings. Day to day you will conduct routine and non-routine accounting activities including month- and quarter- and year-end closes, journal entries, and reconciliation. Areas of specific focus will include stock-based compensation, goodwill and intangible asset impairment, purchase accounting, asset retirement obligations, lease accounting, and derivatives and hedging transactions. You will partner cross-functionally with Corporate Accounting, Investor Relations, Legal, FP&A and Tax team members to evaluate and prepare information related to periodic public filings.

What You Can Offer Us
  • Research and gather information to be used in the planning, preparation, and submission of external reporting-related SEC filings.
  • Preparation of financial statement footnotes and supporting documents for audited financial statements.
  • Contribute to the preparation and review of statutory, local and benefit plan financial filings.
  • Assist with research on technical accounting matters related to new accounting standards and treatment of complex transactions.
  • Preparation and validation of financial reports, schedules and supporting account analyses for the Internal Audit, Tax, Investor Relations and FP&A departments, as well as for external auditors.
  • Preparation of asset retirement obligation calculation and entries and stock-based compensation schedules and projections.
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as required by management to support ongoing needs of the business.


What You Need to Succeed
  • Bachelor's degree in either Accounting or Finance required; CPA or CPA candidate strongly preferred.
  • Between 1-3 years of audit or SEC reporting experience required.
  • Proficiency in the conceptual and practical application of accounting and GAAP principles required.
  • Working knowledge of SEC reporting and disclosure requirements preferred.
  • Advanced Excel knowledge, including the use of pivot tables, preferred.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present ideas and suggestions clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to work with different functional groups and levels of employees to effectively and professionally achieve results.
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to accomplish multiple tasks within the agreed upon timeframes through effective prioritization of duties and functions in a fast-paced environment .
