Main Purpose of Role
In this role you will be the owner of the technical quality of Mercia's tax content, including: in courses, marketing support products, manuals, reviews and Technical Query services, and to support the tax technical team.

Along with being the custodian of our tax content, you will perform regular technical work which will include writing and presenting high-quality technical presentations, answering the tax Technical Query helpline, contributing to technical content and/or undertaking high quality independent and objective file reviews to evaluate accountancy practices' compliance with regulatory standards.

You will also be a key representative of Mercia with regulatory bodies and communities.



Responsibilities:

- Be the face of Mercia's tax division (internally and externally) and help raise and maintain its profile.
- Owns (in conjunction with the technical director) the technical quality of Mercia's tax products and services.
- Support, coordinate and manage the recruitment, retention and training of team members, which will include promoting further training when skills gaps have been identified.
- Operating technical quality control processes overall tax output.
- First point of call for planning the effective use of the tax technical team resource.
- Production of high-quality training materials that are technically correct, up to date and practical and valuable for our clients.
- Presenting agreed topics in the medium and location has been determined to best suit the client and achieve Mercia's strategic direction.
- Work closely with and support our Product team. This includes contributing to the technical, client and competitor intelligence used to make Product decisions and liaising with the Product Director and Managers when updating or creating a product to ensure that client needs are met and product solutions can be iterated to our Sales and Marketing teams.
- Brand advocate for Mercia.

Skills and Experience Required
- Excellent technical knowledge in the field of taxation, an ability to grasp changes and have the required skill to translate knowledge into written and verbal practical guidance to meet the needs of accountancy practitioners.
- The ability to undertake a high degree of research to stay abreast of the changing regulations.
- Excellent commercial awareness of the UK accounting profession.
- Professionally qualified to ACA standard or equivalent with sufficient post qualified practical experience in a professional environment.
- Ability to apply technical knowledge clearly and practically to a range of client firms and situations. Experience of presenting courses or undertaking file reviews in the accountancy profession.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and above-average competency with the English Language to take on complex writing assignments. Must be able to effectively liaise with clients, staff and external parties.
- Ability to map quality control systems and monitor their operation.
- A high degree of organisational and project management skills.
- Good people manager to get the best out of the team and support their development.
