Chief Financial Officer

Up to £145,000

Available in Ministry of Justice locations nationwide. Core locations include London, Leeds and Cardiff.

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) is a major Government department, at the heart of the justice system, an essential public service, relied upon by millions of victims, families, and businesses across our country. At the MoJ, our 85,000-strong team is working to protect and advance the principles of justice and deliver a world-class justice system that works for everyone in society.

We are seeking a new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) who will play a vital role in the overall leadership of the MoJ group, including its 34 agencies and Arm’s Length Bodies. You will play an important role providing leadership of financial responsibilities across the Department, providing advice and support to the Secretary of State and Permanent Secretary, and will be instrumental in optimising Functional Leadership and delivering professional services across the MoJ group.

The MoJ combines a wide range and scale of operational, policy and major programme delivery challenges, and there has never been a more important time to join the team. We are working to protect the public, reduce reoffending, and provide swift access to justice, including reforming our services for the public’s benefit, and delivering end-to end recovery of the system post-pandemic.

This is no ordinary CFO appointment and we are seeking an outstanding individual who is CCAB qualified and who has an extensive background in financial leadership and Board level experience gained in a large, complex organisation. You will need to be confident engaging with a wide range of very senior stakeholders in justice, wider government and industry, while navigating complex and politically sensitive governance arrangements. The successful candidate will combine strong business and financial acumen with the ability to engage and inspire our diverse workforce in a compelling way.

We are collaborative in how we work with each other across the Department and all our agencies, and all our staff are continually building expertise which will be critical to all areas of MoJ’s work. We particularly encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds
