Description

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • To develop and review monthly capital and long term maintenance reporting and provide insightful management information and financial analysis and deliver to tight deadlines.
  • To develop, maintain and monitor a suite of exception reports in relation to capital expenditure and capital grant income as well as long-term maintenance.
  • To ensure that the Fixed Asset Register is fully reconciled each month.
  • To oversee the preparation of the Capital budget and five year plan balance sheet and cash flow.
  • To Chair monthly meetings of the Capital Finance Working Group.
  • To ensure accurate and complete financial planning, reporting and risk management in relation to capital, capital grant income and long-term maintenance.
  • To actively work with members of Estates and IT Services to develop their financial awareness and understanding in relation to capital, and to help them drive appropriate actions.
  • Take appropriate action to deliver budget results and to ensure that the full financial implications of projects and initiatives, including financial risks are fully understood and appropriately managed.
  • To work with the stakeholders at all levels and as appropriate on the preparation and review of financial reports and business plans.
  • To attend Capital Project committees as the Capital Finance representative.
  • To present training sessions at workshops when required.
  • To manage staff involved in the support of capital activity
  • To seek opportunities to continuously improve procedures as necessary to adequately support the business activities
  • To perform ad hoc duties or projects as requested.
  • Be familiar with the Financial Regulations, Procedures, Purchasing Policy and any other documents as issued by the Office of the Chief Financial Officer from time to time, and give advice on compliance thereto.
  • To maintain confidentiality of information in line with data protection requirements and policy.
  • To comply with Health and Safety requirements, including having an awareness of personal responsibilities to maintain a safe working environment.
  • To perform ad hoc duties or projects as requested.

Profile

The successful candidate will have:

  • A recognised CCAB professional accountancy qualification or equivalent
  • Educated to degree level
  • Experience of working within finance in a large, complex organization demonstrating ability to work collaboratively and proactively across organisational boundaries.
  • Experienced in leading, managing and developing teams with the ability to think in strategic terms and exercise leadership.
  • Significant experience of working in an accounts preparation role with strong analytical skills to enable production of meaningful financial reporting
  • Strong technical knowledge including the accounting requirements of both FRS 102 and IFRS.
  • Motivation to streamline processes and identify and implement continuous improvement
  • Strong IT skills, particularly accounting systems and high level excel skills, including data manipulation and interrogation
  • Experience of working in a business partnering role and delivering an exceptional customer service to stakeholders
  • Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills to engage colleagues at all levels, including those without financial expertise
  • Motivation both to work as a team member, supporting other accountants, and to work under own initiative
  • Have the ability to use discretion with sensitive information and to maintain complete confidentiality at all times.
  • Possess excellent organisational skills and a willingness to work flexibly
  • Experience of leading on the accounting, budgeting and forecasting of capital projects.
