A well known Association is seeking to employ an Accountant for its Westville office:
PRIMARY PURPOSE AND FUNCTION
Prepare and maintain financial accounts and reports in terms of the financial requirements of the Association. This includes maintaining and reconciling accounts; preparing monthly accounts, reports and year end financial statements for the Association and the Funds, capturing data accurately on Pastel and generating accounts and reports timeously.
Responsibilities include:
Monthly

* Download payouts from the Pension/Provident Fund programme onto spreadsheets and reconciling with payments for withdrawals, retirements, deaths, surplus and IEB settlements.
* Print out investment statements and updating investment spreadsheets and process journals for the Association and Funds.
* Reconcile general ledger bank account with Cash Book on Fund System.
* Prepare all journals and update Pastel once approved.
* Prepare schedules for all accounts and update regularly.
* Process online payments for authorisation.
* Keep schedules of payments that return unpaid and inform relevant staff.
* Reconcile the Funds and MBA intercompany-account and transfer amounts due to the MBA at two monthly intervals.
* Prepare relevant Fund and Association reports to assist in analysing the financial information [Email Address Removed]e reports could relate to payments, fund member numbers, investments, cashflow, etc.
* Monitor investments, analyse and compare returns.
* Integrate financial information from the business unit POS system and "Your Membership" into Pastel.
* Download online bank statements and code the deposits to match invoices or credit card transactions. Reconcile to bank statement using the Bank Reconciliation Programme on Pastel.
* Set up recurring journals where necessary and update the general ledger.
* Write up journals of expenses incurred but not paid in the month. Capture on Pastel and update. Reconcile the accrual general ledger and adjust accordingly.
* Holiday Pay - input data obtained from Benefits Administrator onto the Pastel HPSS bank account, run a bank reconciliation, prepare a monthly schedule of contributions and payment downloaded from the bank and agree it to the general ledger.
* Send out debtors statements on request and attend to debtors queries. Attend to all debtor adjustments. Close to the year end, prepare a schedule of all outstanding debtors in the respective business units and email managers and staff for collection.
* Upload information from the Tax system on Pastel, compare and agree output and input entries from the tax system to the general ledger. Provide for any transactions not appearing on the Tax system eg. Journals. Prepare a reconciliation schedule of the VAT output and input to be paid to SARS by 25th of every month to avoid penalties and interest.
* Ad hoc - completion, submission and payment of all statutory returns. Obtaining Tax Clearance certificate and Letter of Good Standing, attend to all SARS queries when required.
* Management Reports - run the BIC reports being actual/budget, business unit income statement and periodic business unit. Assess income statements. Attend to all adjustments and email the periodic business unit income statement to the respective managers.
Quarterly

* Quarterly Asset Allocation Reporting for the Funds.
* Request all necessary reports from the investment houses.
* Input data into spreadsheets and reconcile with cash flow reports to explain changes to SARB.
* Submit data to SARB via their online site.
Annually

* Prepare Accounts for the Auditors.
* Account for Accruals and Prepayments.
* Final reconciliation of all Withdrawals , Retirements & Deaths and tax deducted for the Funds.
* Request all certificates on behalf of the Auditors.
* Prepare all schedules requested by the Auditors.
* Reconciling the SARB report from the quarter ended September to the year end 31 October for the Fund auditors.
* Agree the Annual Financial Statements to the Actuarial valuation and making the necessary adjustments.
* Working on the Financial review, analyse year end data, allocate contributions, returns, expenses and payouts to correctly allocate balances to the reserve accounts.
* Draft the Annual Financial Statements once the financial review is complete for the Funds and has been approved by the Actuary. Input the data onto the FSCA magic software and submit online together with a signed pdf copy of the AFS.
* B-BBEE - prepare the procurement schedule, email the expense general ledger, invoices and proof of payments to the B-BBEE consultant when required.
* Budgets - Assist Finance Manager with the preparation of Budget Reports.
General

* To assist with the accounting processes of the Association for membership and other units, where required.
* To assist with any other duties relating to the Finance Department or the Association as a whole, which may reasonably be expected of an employee in this position.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Qualification and Experience:

* Degree or relevant qualification.
* At least 5 years relevant experience.
* Exposure to pension and provident funds would be an added advantage.
Skills:

* Excellent Computer skills, excel, word and outlook and Pastel, BIC reporting.
* Logical thinking skills.
* Accounting and maths skills.
* Knowledge of Investments.
Abilities:

* Excellent time management and organisational skills.
* Ability to prioritise and work to Deadlines.

* Ability to work under pressure.
