As this is a Grow Your Own Graduate Programme vacancy, this vacancy is open to all graduates of Birmingham City University who have graduated within the last 2 academic years.

An exciting time for a recent BCU graduate to join a successful Finance team at Birmingham City University as one of our Finance Assistants. 

The role offers an opportunity to work within a busy Financial Reporting team to gain experience and strengthen your Finance and Accountancy skills.

You'll be based at our City Centre campus, although there will be a mixture of home and office-based work.

The role will focus on supporting the existing Financial Reporting Team (of 4) as they work to deliver on the organisation's external financial reporting requirements. 

As a Finance Assistant, you'll be providing analysis and technical support to finance staff and the wider University community. You'll be responsible for the accurate and efficient analysis of transactions for capture in our external reporting requirements as well as supporting the production of our Financial Statements and quarterly VAT returns.

You'll also be required to perform month-end duties which includes the preparation of control account reconciliation, understanding and validating the movements between periods by liaising with colleagues across various departments.

As a key member of the team, you'll also take responsibility for the resolution of, and respond to direct queries and issues presented by finance colleagues, University staff and key external stakeholders in a timely and customer-focused manner.

The successful candidate will:

  • have a focus on producing high quality information and reports
  • have an appetite to understand processes and identify further improvements
  • be looking to study towards AAT or higher Accountancy qualifications (such as CIMA, ACCA)
  • have a good standard of literacy and numeracy equivalent to GCSE English and Maths
  • have excellent IT skills including familiarity with Microsoft Office, in particular Excel
  • have some knowledge or experience of financial administration procedures and systems
  • have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • must be able to demonstrate an organised approach to work and an ability to prioritise different tasks
