CNA National Warranty Corporation is searching for Senior Accountant. Senior level accounting professional responsible for financial statement preparation, journal entries, financial reporting and consolidation. Interaction with internal and external auditors as well as corporate staff at all levels. Involved in completing monthly closing procedures, preparing account balance sheet reconciliations and analysis for CNA National.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Prepares and reviews complex monthly financial statements and reports at both the local level and the corporate level.
  • Collaborate with corporate staff to ensure accuracy of financial statements.
  • Assist in monthly close process including journal entry preparation and complex reconciliations related to various insurance-based accounts.
  • Ensure that accounting records and financial statements are accurate and complete by analyzing transactions and the general ledger accounts. Recommend any needed reclassifications or adjustments.
  • Furnishes advice on accounting matters such as classification of transactions for Balance Sheet or Income Statement presentation.
  • Provides leadership and direction to team members, rather than through a direct supervisory role.
  • Provides support to financial staff with issues related to financial reporting.
  • Solve complex problems by drawing on relevant career experience and professional judgment.
  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial systems, controls and reporting.
  • Identify and help implement process improvements.
  • Participate in ad-hoc projects as assigned.


Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Knowledge of corporate accounting practices, procedures and principles as they relate to the organization, business unit and insurance industry.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and statutory accounting principles.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software systems, including processing systems and applications. Oracle and Workday preferred.
  • Experience performing complex data driven analysis on complex data sets.
  • Strong time-management skills, ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with staff at all levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Fast learner and inquisitive personality
  • Attention to detail, thoroughness, highly organized.


Job Requirements:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in accounting or finance.
  • CPA or currently pursing CPA certification preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of related work experience with a public company.
  • Insurance industry experience strongly preferred.
  • At least 2 years public accounting experience preferred.
