R + D Tax Business Development / Manager - Hybrid Working City Based £40k-70k (dependent on experience)

Must have at least 1 year of experience in R+D tax

Two organisations are looking for R+D tax professionals.

A large mid tier practise is looking for a Manager.

A smaller mid tier practise is looking for several R+D tax business developers. These roles will include visiting clients.

Requirements

  • Preferably a degree in Engineering, computer science, mechanical, Aerospace etc (Technical report writing experience)
  • Some industry experience outside of R&D such as Design Engineer etc would be useful
  • Some managerial experience - looking after more junior staff

    Job Title R&D Tax Manager Office London

    Purpose of the Role

    You'll support clients with claims for R&D tax relief and tax credits. This involves undertaking technical and financial assessment, liaison with HMRC, dealing with HMRC enquiries, and client management.

    Main Responsibilities
  • Ensuring that the R&D tax portfolio is effectively controlled and monitored, and work is delegated where appropriate, ensuring that the processing of claims meets monthly deadlines and internal and external service delivery demands
  • Undertaking the technical assessment of claims and producing the technical summary, involving the review of accounting information
  • Ensuring all claims meet the relevant legislative guidelines
  • Developing new clients, attending new and existing client meetings, building up effective working relationships with clients, and advising on R&D aspects

    Staff management (where appropriate)
  • Assist in the appraisal process for all allocated members of staff
  • Allocate and review jobs / tasks
  • Ensure trainees receive training relevant to their level of ability
  • Actively promote regular use of the Tax section on the Intranet
  • Actively help to develop junior members of the tax team
    Communications
  • Partners - how jobs are progressing, keeping them informed on client matters, proposed strategies on dealing with clients
  • Audit managers - technical advice
  • Tax team members
  • Other tax technical experts
  • Admin team - any administration, marketing, secretarial duties
  • Clients - meetings, ad hoc queries
  • HMRC

    Problems and Issues
  • Managing clients - ensuring that their expectations are met
  • Keeping staff motivated, encouraging them and ensuring their development within the role
  • Any technical issues that may arise.
    Decision Making Parameters
  • Recommend and propose budgets to Partner/Director/Senior Manager/Manager
  • Allocation of tasks and time
  • Makes day to day decisions on client work
  • Decisions on technical advice
    Delegation
  • Team members - portfolio, company tax returns
  • Admin staff, typing, letters, accounts, bills, and reports
    Qualification and Skills
  • Degree in Engineering, Science or IT is desirable
  • Experience in Industry preferred, and at least 2 years in R&D Tax Industry as essential
  • Demonstrable technical tax knowledge of R&D tax relief and allowances, Patent Box, Grants and International R&D relief
  • You're proactive and enjoy developing new business
  • General knowledge and understanding of audit and accountancy issues
  • You're a competent user of MS Excel & Word
  • You're organised and able to navigate conflicting priorities to deliver quality work on time
  • You're positive and look for ways to fix things, whether working with clients or colleagues
