Capital Accountant

Work Location: East Perth

Roster: Monday - Friday

Fortescue is seeking a Capital Accountant to join a fast paced, dynamic working environment in a position that will offer the successful candidate exposure across all areas of Fortescue's capital projects.

This career development opportunity will suit an individual who has recently completed, or is working towards completing, a CA/CPA and someone who will enjoy interacting with a broad range of operational and corporate departments.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Assist in preparation of capital reporting
  • Interpretation and application of Australian accounting standards
  • Performance of key month end accounting tasks
  • Facilitate monthly processes including completeness of postings and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Assist in the accounting for the capital project lifecycle through identification to project close out
  • Management of the fixed asset register, including determining and reviewing asset useful lives and analysing depreciation.
  • Point of contact for capital accounting policy, including application to proposed projects.
  • Assist and coordinate the application of AASB 16 leases, including lease identification, accounting and reporting.

Qualifications and skills required:

  • CA/CPA qualification
  • Understanding of Australian accounting standards
  • Experience within the mining industry
  • Advanced excel skills
  • SAP experience is desirable
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Enjoy interacting with a broad range of operational and corporate departments
  • Motivation for personal career development
  • Dedication to work in a team environment
