aleksandar. have been appointed to manage a business critical recruitment process on behalf of a leading superannuation fund to identify a Tax Manager in the Australian market. Our business partner professionally invests into a variety of funds across all major asset classes including, public equity, private equity, real estate, infrastructure and fixed-income instruments.

The Tax Manager position will report to the Head of Tax and will oversee a variety of Investments and compliance related needs across their real estate and infrastructure portfolio. The role includes tax structuring support, managing tax risk, executing on strategic initiatives and nurturing relationships with key external partners.

Our mandate is to attract and select an experienced tax professional from a top-tier institution who can manage the following key responsibilities:

  • Preparing and reviewing technical tax advice in relation to transactions involving various investment classes including tax structuring advice, tax due diligence on proposed investments and fund optimisation strategies.
  • Maintain tax knowledge pertinent to select asset classes that invest across Australia and leverage a network of advisors to monitor changes of tax law or administrative practice.
  • Effectively communicate changes of law to the Head of Tax and other interested teams internally that could impact current or future investments.
  • Provide support to other colleagues in Group Tax to ensure tax risks and opportunities are well understood and, if necessary, get involved to resolve service issues with advisors.
  • Collaborate with the Group Tax team and other Core Services departments to ensure the on-going tax management of investments. Identify areas for improvement and recommend logical solutions.
  • Maintain high standards of effective oral and written communication to internal stakeholders to ensure ease of understanding and relevance to the business.
  • Assist the tax compliance team in interfacing with the local investment departments to ensure tax compliance obligations are met (this could also involve review of various returns that are prepared externally).
  • Suggest changes to internal tax polices/guidelines to ensure they are kept current and relevant given the evolving nature of the investments in various funds.
  • Actively contribute to the Tax group's knowledge database and share ideas and options.
  • Assist in various special projects and initiatives.
  • Demonstrate the confidence and professionalism to work effectively with colleagues across the organisation.
  • Promote collaboration and problem solving solutions within and across teams.

Requirements
  • A minimum of 10 years income tax experience, with transaction tax, mergers and acquisitions tax experience.
  • Chartered Accountant (CA), CPA, law degree or comparable professional credentials.
  • Demonstrated writing skills, strong analytical skills, creativity in written presentation materials and strong oral presentation skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to think broadly about tax information, think through problems, assess a variety of factors and recommend solutions.
  • Ability to adapt communication style based on the audience and proven skills to synthesise complex technical concepts into plain language for non-specialist audiences.
  • Strong organisational/project management skills with the ability to efficiently manage multiple assignments.
  • Excellent attention to detail and consistent high levels of accuracy.
  • Demonstrates personal initiative, strives to innovate and is highly attuned to the need for pragmatic solutions.
  • Strong impact and influencing skills with the ability to influence people with personal style and finesse rather than authority.
  • A continuous learner who stays on top of business trends and tax technical changes.
  • Flexible and able to work with light supervision and adaptable to change.
