Position Summary

The Assistant Controller will support the finance team and business leaders with an emphasis on cost accounting, pricing and financial analysis. The Assistant Controller will assist and manage the day to day accounting and finance functions of the area business.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support all aspects of accounting management (billing, reporting, compliance, FP&A, etc.).
  • Assist in the formulation of internal controls and policies to comply with legislation and established best practices.
  • Change management and process improvement experience
  • Hold cross functional teams accountable for financial results
  • Ability to use data and data analysis to proactively identify areas of improvement
  • Prepare monthly financial statements ensuring all statements are appropriately analyzed and correctly stated.
  • Review balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis to confirm proper reconciliation and supporting documentation.
  • Review monthly financials with business unit managers addressing any issues.
  • Perform month end closing activities - accruals, production entries, inventory adjustments, royalty payments, depletion entries, etc.
  • Prepare annual budgets and financial reforecasts as required.
  • Assist with monthly forecasting process.
  • Prepare for and respond to internal and external audit requests.
  • Oversee all aspects of compliance with SOX and internal controls.
  • Ensure adequate controls are in place and maintained to safeguard financial assets. This includes all SOX controls and CRH policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate semi-annual physical inventory reconciliation process.
  • Complete monthly inventory reconciliations and review of ending inventory.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Addresses complaints and resolves problems in a timely manner.
  • Maintains professional demeanor in dealing with critical/confidential information; restricts discussion/knowledge of activity to a "need to know" basis.
  • Responsible for supporting and developing plant accounting staff
  • Other duties as may be assigned.


Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Audit experience, preferably with experience in manufacturing and heavy construction
  • A minimum of 5+ years of experience and training in general finance and accounting areas
  • Proficient with Windows, Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Must have excellent communication skills including written and verbal
  • Proven analytical skills
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative


Preferred

  • MBA and CPA/CPA Candidate preferred
  • Management experience is preferred
  • Merger/Acquisition experience preferred
  • ERP (SAP or Oracle) implementation experience preferred


Work Requirements

  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and company procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook
  • Must be willing to spend time in the production environment and participate in annual physical inventory counts
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required (5-10%)
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when required


Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, technical, cross-functional environment
  • Strong FP&A experience
  • Detailed oriented with the ability to work autonomously
  • Excellent visual design sense regarding clear and accurate presentation of data
  • Ability to check own work to ensure accuracy
  • Ability to deal effectively with questions or problems, seeking assistance when needed
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks effectively with a focus on timeliness and responsiveness
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written). Must be comfortable working with stakeholders at all levels of the business
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High standard of ethics, integrity, and trust
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures outlined in Employee Handbook
