We are seeking an experienced, motivated Cost Accountant to join the Finance team in our Baldwinsville, NY facility. Reporting to the Plant Controller, this position has a strong focus in cost accounting, inventory control and production planning capacity. Responsibilities will include accurate standard cost generation, variance analysis, budgeting/forecasting, general ledger maintenance, and FP&A activities. How you will impact PaperWorks:
  • Maintain responsibility for routine compilation of parts manufacturing costs for payroll, inventory accountability, distribution of factory labor, verification of actual costs and computation of variances.
  • Understand product manufacturing cost flow to evaluate or determine production job costs and variances.
  • Weekly review of production job actual performances vs. standards and trends; a thorough grasp and comprehension of production variances is essential.
  • Enhance visibility to drivers of manufacturing variances to increase productivity and enable better decision making.
  • Determine monthly product profitability utilizing existing reporting procedures as well as ad hoc analytical methods.
  • Take the lead in developing and verifying data relevant to margin analysis, spending controls, cost avoidance, and a variety of financial analysis and special projects.
  • Participate in setting and revising cost accounting standards for departmental labor usage, material utilization, and manufacturing overhead rates.
  • Conduct research and perform analytical studies regarding manufacturing spend, actual vs. standard direct labor performance, material yields, overhead costs, process improvements, and other analyses.
  • Work with logistics/procurement department and vendors to under quantity and pricing discrepancies on supplier invoices.

What you will need to succeed:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration or a related field of study. Prior experience in a folding carton manufacturing facility is a plus.
  • Ability to work within a general ledger, accurately and timely reconcile balance sheet accounts, approve, and post journal entries is a must. Basic understanding of GAAP with the ability to support external audit function as necessary.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary, with an ability to resolve and manage internal customer expectations regarding timeliness and accuracy of required information.
  • Must be detail oriented, organized and energetic.
  • Meaningful experience with Microsoft Office Applications is a must.
  • Self-starter with a drive to achieve operational excellence with a positive attitude!
