About the Role

The Financial Controller is accountable for overseeing the overall integrity and accuracy of the financial results and external corporate reporting of Urban Utilities. The Financial Controller plays a vital role of protecting value through oversight of the appropriate design and application of financial controls and policies across Urban Utilities, whilst promoting sound financial management.

The Financial controller oversees the accounting and tax function, and provides efficient financial services such as accounts payable, payroll and receipting, ensuring that spend is appropriately managed and controlled.

Further to this, you will be responsible for:
  • Preparation, accuracy and integrity of the external financial statements and reporting obligations, overseeing the preparation of the monthly corporate reporting and year-end financial statements, together with the coordination of the external audit.
  • Development and application of the appropriate financial policies and procedures across the business in accordance with all legislative compliance requirements, including but not limited to compliance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Design and application of financial controls across the business to ensure the integrity of the financial statements and provide sound financial governance. Provide appropriate internal assurance through monitoring of the effectiveness of the design and application of controls.
  • Providing leadership to the financial transaction services team including accounts payable, payroll and receipting, driving ongoing improvement opportunities in the efficiency of services, design of controls and compliance with obligations
  • Overseeing the accounting and tax functions of the organisation, whilst driving ongoing continuous improvements of core financial processes, systems, and capabilities.
  • Provide a leadership role within Finance as part of the Finance Leadership Team, to develop the strategic direction for the Finance division to deliver on the enterprise strategy and objectives whilst creating a high performing, contemporary, and best practice finance function.

About You
We are seeking a strategic and engaging leader, who can drive results in a complex and layered environment. Alongside your depth of technical expertise and relevant qualifications, you will demonstrate an alignment with the Urban Utilities values. You will come with an extensive background across the following:
  • Proven financial management and control experience providing expert competence with over 10 years of expertise
  • Significant leadership experience, working at the senior level with executive teams and Board members
  • Demonstrated experience in interpreting strategy and policy to set and deliver objectives
  • Extensive experience preparing external financial statements and reporting obligations
  • CA/CPA/ or equivalent qualification essential.
