Join this large commercial and highly successful international business with many million in revenues and strong profits recorded in recent years. This large division has operations Australia-wide and turns over more than $400M in revenue.

They are looking for an experienced commercial specialist with a background in complex operational environments, ideally working in a business unit of a large company.

The Opportunity

Deliver finance business partnering work alongside local and international business partners ensuring clarity and consistency of financial reporting and commercial analysis for the Executive. There is strong scope to grow the role taking on additional responsibility with time in the seat.

The team is strong and there is very solid length of tenure for those in key positions, and there is plenty of opportunity to drive change and improvements to financial controls, systems and processes.

Once up and running in the role, you will be able to negotiate a flexible working from home arrangement that suits both parties.

The Role

As a lot of the day-to-day compliance and processing happens offshore, this role is responsible for ensuring the quality of financial information in reporting and the appropriateness of systems and control. It is focused on leading results through others, and engaging with business areas to ensure their needs are understood and strong information is provided to support decisions.

Hands-on elements of the role are more around business case development, commercial analysis of operating models, and systems and process improvement. You will be responsible for delivering monthly reporting, budgets and forecasting packs and quarterly balance sheet reconciliations produced offshore.

As the billing function is intrinsically linked to client satisfaction, you will review the work of transaction teams and QA financial operations.
  • Act as a trusted, visible and accessible point of contact to business leaders providing commercial and financial decision support, challenge and insight into business profitability to drive future performance
  • Understand the customer landscape and their numerous, complex drivers to provide contract / service pricing, cash, and margin optimisation recommendations, ensuring an acceptable balance of risk and return
  • Understand the value drivers of the business and provide guidance on contract / service performance including ROI, scenario planning, KPI analysis and benchmarking
  • Support the portfolio strategy through market, competitor and portfolio analysis, insights, and recommendations to inform and challenge market entry and exit decisions
  • Provide decision support for organic growth, new business, mergers and acquisitions and other investment proposals drawing upon the central commercial team
  • Develop customer relationships to successfully contribute to commercial and financial negotiations regarding variable revenue, rebids, and change notices
  • Drive contract / service cost optimisation projects through profitability analysis and efficiency recommendations
  • Proactively identify, assess, and manage financial and commercial risks


Your Background and Experience

You are an experienced and engaging commercial finance professional (CA/CPA) with a background in large organisations where you have dealt with complex commercial contracts.

You have progressed from technical accounting and pride yourself on providing value-add commercial analysis and advice to the Executive. You enjoy being in a technical role where you do not need to manage staff on a day-to-day basis, however may have previous experience managing a remote team.

You love solving problems and your commercial acumen has been relied on previously to help grow a business. You pride yourself on your ability to engage with and influence key decision makers including with clients on contract negotiations.

Salary / Rate

  • $140K - $180K package
  • Strong working from home flexibility once up and running in the role
  • Permanent, ongoing, Canberra based position
