Wood is currently recruiting for an Associate Accountant to join our team in Perth, Australia. Wood has a number of finance and accounting sub departments within the organisation. The objective of this role is to provide a graduate joining the organisation with a rounded experience within their early career. The role will require you to rotate in different sub functions over a period of 3 years. These rotations will include some of the following:
  • Financial Control & Reporting
  • Project Accounting
  • Commercial
  • Investor relations
  • F&A Development & Projects
  • Internal Audit & Risk
  • Tax & Treasury

Within each sub department the role will require that you obtain a understanding of the departments key activities, experience of the basic tasks to be performed, and build a breadth of network and knowledge of the F&A function. The timing and relevant rotation will be determined at the outset of the role. The role will also require travel at times, and some of these rotations may not be performed at the base location of hire.

Responsibilities

The main duties and responsibilities of the role will vary dependent upon the sub department rotation, example responsibilities are provided below:

Financial Control & reporting
  • Supporting the month end close and reporting process
  • Involvement in and preparation of instructions and reporting associated with annual forecasts and budgets
  • Creation and maintenance of appropriate reporting templates
  • Ad hoc data analysis based on the Group Financial Reporting system
  • Supporting Group Financial reporting requirements
  • Supporting Group functional overhead reporting requirements


Project Accounting
  • Ensure that all accounting entries are prepared accurately and in line with corporate deadlines
  • Ensure invoices are prepared in a timely manner and in accordance with the commercial terms of the contract
  • Ensure results are accurately reported and analysed
  • Calculation of billing and cost rates, and analysis of margins to manage profitability
  • Preparation of annual plan and quarterly reforecast in conjunction with Business Management and Finance team
  • Responsibility for compliance with Financial Management Framework within the individual's sphere of control
  • Execution of various ad hoc financial analysis and tasks as and when required

Commercial
  • Support to the contracts team with review and analysis of contract terms
  • Assistance with the commercial tender governance process and supporting reporting
  • Assistance with the application of the internal services policy and associated process
  • Assistance with dispute resolution and risk management processes
  • Support provided to the post contract commercial management process

Investor Relations
  • Assistance with preparation annual and half year results announcements, including associated analysis and presentations
  • Assistance with preparation of the Group Annual Report
  • Support with regular trading update communications and associated analysis
  • Support with preparation of materials for capital market days
  • Support with business analysis required for discussions with analysts and investors

F&A Development & Projects
  • Supporting with producing analysis around "as is" processes, ways of working and financial metrics
  • Supporting development of strategy for "to be" processes and ways of working
  • Development of project plans to deliver process changes and/or implementation of new systems
  • Supporting the Enterprise Programme to roll out Oracle, simplify our entities and adopt our finance operating model
  • Supporting wih people, process and technology linked projects
  • Assistance with reporting of costs and cost savings associated with these projects

Internal Audit & Risk
  • Assistance with audit scheduling and planning
  • Preparation of ad hoc audit and risk analysis and reporting
  • Execute parts of planned audits on financial, commercial, and compliance areas of the business, including international travel as part of audit teams
  • Build and effective working relationships with people being audited
  • Support audit teams in documenting and reporting audit results

Tax & Treasury
  • Support Treasury department with monthly reporting requirements
  • Support with monthly analysis of foreign exchange exposures and completing appropriate hedging to manage our risks
  • Assistance with agreement and placement of bonds and guarantees
  • Assistance with ad hoc treasury projects
  • Assistance with preparation of tax compliance returns and filings
  • Assistance with tax projects


Qualifications:
  • Recently completed a Bachelor of Commerce or Business degree majoring in Accounting and achieving a high Credit or Distinction average
  • Further professional accountancy training is expected to form part of the graduate rotations

Knowledge, skills and experience:
  • Proficient user of Excel and other Microsoft software
  • Good communication skills essential
  • Good at growing networks, ability to work as a team or on their own
  • Self motivated with a growth and learning mindset
  • Relevant experience in Finance systems such as Hyperion or Oracle would be beneficial
  • Relevant work experience within Finance in other organisations may be beneficial although not essential
