ABOUT THE ROLE

The Senior Staff Accountant (Sr. Associate) will have strong leadership and interpersonal skills, ability to maintain confidentiality, personal integrity, and commitment. Must support staff; work well under pressure in a challenging workplace. Demonstrated mastery of accounting principles, internal controls, and financial analysis as well as tax returns. Highly Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel); be highly organized with the ability to follow instructions precisely; can work discreetly and independently and with a professional demeanor.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Preparation of financial statements and various other analysis on a monthly basis
  • Oversee work of Junior accountant in certain areas of business
  • Serve as liaison between accounting and FP&A teams on annual budget, forecasting and other analytical work
  • Participate in budget review meetings with business units
  • Work closely with controller on critical projects, e.g., annual audit
  • Serve as Finance department's technical expert on all finance and accounting systems applications
  • Work directly with IS staff on key systems selection, implementation, and integration initiatives
  • Development and writing of detailed business requirements
  • Drive simplification and standardization of Finance business processes by creating and updating process documentation and workflows then measuring performance and applying improvements
  • Develop and execute Strategic Plans for streamlining of finance business processes and integrations
  • Responsible for monthly analysis of the Corporate functional expenses
  • Act as in house trainer and expert of implemented systems. Train staff as necessary: accounting, FP&A, budget owners, etc. on all new financial systems.
  • Continue to look for areas of integration and improvement within the financial systems and accounting close process to optimize investment in new finance platform
  • Organize the planning, scheduling, validation and coordination of major software upgrades and new releases; implement any required change management
  • Perform work related to special projects involving system analysis and financial management as assigned
  • Support any new business review to see how Finance can support and the impact that will have on the system/resource use
  • Lead onboarding and off boarding of businesses from the financial systems
  • Identify opportunities for efficiencies and standardization. Evaluate and support affiliates’ financial process by becoming a knowledgeable user of their systems with deep understanding of their business process
  • Responsible to run monthly analysis on budget vs actuals for variances of 10% or more
  • Responsible on setting up new grants in the new system and assist with the grants management and reporting
  • Responsible for updating the new systems with any new GL accounts as well as reporting templates
  • Responsible for FTE monthly analysis budget vs actuals
  • Be the lead business partner on any upgrades or integration of additional systems on finance and accounting platform
  • Assist with annual budget process. Take lead on training the budget owners as needed to effectively utilize systems budget tools and processes.
  • Train accounting staff as needed, fill in as necessary with close process
  • Participate in cross-functional project teams to support system implementations, upgrades, process improvement initiatives or acquisitions, as required
  • Ad hoc tasks & projects as required 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • College degree, master's degree preferred in accounting or finance
  • 5-7 years' experience with a financial services firm or in the accounting department of an organization
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects while working with deadlines
  • Data analysis, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of work coupled with the ability to work on a team and contribute to that team
  • High rate of interaction with internal customers and senior management requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to keep confidential highly sensitive company plans and data
  • CPA desired

OTHER

  • Some travel may be required
  • Position is based in Boston, MA
