Overview
Oceanview is growing! We are hiring for a Staff Accountant to join our team. The position will be part of the team responsible for maintaining the books and records of Oceanview Life and Annuity Company ("Oceanview") and several affiliates. The position will be a key member of the accounting staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following job functions are not all-inclusive. The employee will be required to perform other job-related tasks/responsibilities as requested. Job duties may change as required by needs of company.
• Prepare and process checks and wire transfers for several entities.
• Prepare and process premium taxes.
• Maintain premium and benefits databases.
• Maintain NAIC reporting database by state and due dates.
• Assist with daily insurance activity including entries and reconciliations.
• Assist in the monthly accounting close process for Oceanview and several affiliates including entries and reconciliations.
• Assist in the processing of accounting entries in the general ledger.
• Assist in the preparation of NAIC statements
• Assist with review and analysis of balance sheet and income statement accounts.
• Assist with year-end audit schedules and audit confirmations.
• Assist with special projects and presentations.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Excel and Word, ability to use pivot tables is desired
• Strong analytical skills and strict attention to detail
• Ability to prioritize several tasks at one time and meet tight deadlines
• Good communication skills
• Previous experience with statutory accounting for life or property/casualty insurance companies is a plus
• Working knowledge of one or more general ledger systems is beneficial
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Undergraduate degree or last semester before degree in accounting is required
• 1 to 2 years of experience performing accounting functions is preferred
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND/OR REGISTRATION
• CPA license or the desire to obtain a CPA license is desired
