Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Adviser, who is passionate about biosecurity, can provide well-reasoned advice from proven experience, and can demonstrate capability to contribute, manage, and deliver biosecurity responses to achieve response objectives.
In addition to leading biosecurity responses, you will actively contribute to Directorate initiatives, projects and work plans. You will be required to work collaboratively across boundaries to provide high quality advice to improve BNZ / MPI's response performance.
As a Senior Adviser, you will be expected to coach and mentor Advisers, and provide expert advice to the leadership team. You will contribute to Strategy, Group, and team outcome realisation to support and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
Additionally, you will support the Border Clearance Services Northern Regional Commissioner to prepare for and respond to any emergency situation. Therefore, an understanding and experience in emergency management would be advantageous as you will be expected to undertake a role within the Coordinated Incident Management System (CIMS) framework.

To be successful in this role you will have:

* Relevant tertiary qualification or demonstrable experience in a relevant role.
* Successful experience in project or programme planning, monitoring, risk mitigation, on time delivery and reporting.
* Experience managing priority projects and work programmes
* Proven ability to work in ambiguous work environments.
* Proven ability to use initiative and persevere to perform.
* Proven ability to communicate effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
* High level analytical and evaluation skills.
* Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills including proven ability to adapt quickly to meet audience needs.
* Proven ability to be resilient, adaptable, and effective in high-pressure situations
* A graduate qualification in plant health is desirable

Mō tō mātou rōpū - About our Teams Readiness and Response Services is a directorate that sits within Biosecurity New Zealand and is responsible for bringing together critical capability to effectively prepare for, and manage responses, and to co-ordinate recovery and long-term management activities, as well as compensation resulting from actions taken to manage biosecurity incursions to those economically impacted. As a directorate we work across biosecurity, food, primary production and trade systems.
The Biosecurity Response teams deal with incursions of new-to-New Zealand organisms and diseases that could threaten New Zealand's economy, environment, social and cultural values, and human health. Our teams are accountable for delivery of effective responses under the Coordinated Incident Management System (CIMS) framework; aimed at ensuring the values of our unique environments and our primary industries are maintained.
Our teams of Advisers and Senior Advisers work across MPI and with Treaty partners, other government agencies, and Government Industry Agreement (GIA) partners. They also provide biosecurity and technical expertise across a range of disciplines.

Salary - Utu
This role is broad banded across D and E which is $75k to $108k depending on skills and experience.
