Hays Accountancy & Finance are partnering exclusively with a leading family-owned construction business based in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire looking to recruit a hands-on and dynamic Assistant Accountant. A varied permanent finance role supporting the Financial Controller and Senior Management team, involving month-end accounts up to trial balance, treasury support and various other accounting/clerical duties. A great opportunity to really add value in a leading Construction sector SME.

Your new role

Your key duties will involve creating and processing month-end journals, managing accruals and prepayments, analysis of monthly sales, direct costs and overheads along with completing reports on a regular basis. You will allocate sales and costs, support the Financial Controller in preparing annual budget spreadsheets and analysis, along with year-end support. You will manage the fixed asset register, complete/submit monthly VAT returns, monthly bank reconciliations, petty cash management, upload invoices and set up bank payments. You will be responsible for managing the company's stock accounting, including reconciliations of balance sheet and monthly reporting on issues. You will support other members of the finance team to manage sales/purchase ledger and provide cover when needed. There will be opportunity to be involved in process/system improvement projects and ad-hoc duties for senior management.

What you'll need to succeed

To be considered for this hands-on and varied permanent Assistant Accountant position you will need experience within a similar role, strong inter-personal skills to build relationships both internally and externally, along with the ability to work well within a team. You will have experience of working under pressure and meeting deadlines, a pro-active and methodically attitude to working, with key attention to detail. Ideally you will be AAT qualified or qualified by experience. Experience with Sage 50 packages, CIS and knowledge of the construction industry would be advantageous but not essential.
