Hays are delighted to be working with a large Shared Service Centre in Birmingham to recruit for a Senior Accounts Payable specialist to join their large and successful team. This role will be overseeing the processing and payment of all vendor invoices across 35 different entities, working closely with the invoice processing team abroad and the local AP team in the UK Shared Service Centre to ensure all invoices are approved within company policy guidelines and paid within agreed payments terms. This role would suit an ambitious candidate with strong AP experience, preferably from a SSC environment, who is passionate about continuous improvement and system development and is looking to get into staff mentoring, advising and management in their next role.

The key responsibilities of this role will be:

  • Overseeing AP team tasks, ensuring processes are followed and deadlines achieved.
  • Working with the AP Manager and AP Supervisor to drive process improvements and introduce new initiatives.
  • Assisting with AP projects such as implementation of system and process changes and other ad hoc projects.
  • Compiling and reviewing performance measures for both the processing team abroad and the AP team locally, helping to drive continuous improvement.
  • Working with the team helping to ensure excellent customer service is provided to internal functions and local businesses at all times.
  • Producing audit reports and sample testing to measure the accuracy of invoices processing/vendor maintenance by international team and payments/other processes carried out by UK AP team.


In order to be successful in this role you will need:

  • Strong accounts payable experience- preferably within a SSC environment, however this is not essential.
  • Fluency in a second European or a Middle Eastern language is desirable, but not essential. (Arabic, German and Spanish are most desired).
  • Strong communication skills and a customer service focused mentality, with the ability to demonstrate a positive approach to resolving invoice/payment issues and queries.
  • Ability to measure and lead a team to success.
  • Ability to organise workload in a structured way, to work on own initiative where appropriate and to ensure deadlines are achieved.
