Tax Manager position working for a well established Mid-tier accounting firm in Perth CBD
THE COMPANY

Our client is a highly reputable and well-established mid-tier CA accounting practice with offices across all states of Australia. Located in the heart of Perth their offices are modern, bright and colourful will a stunning kitchen area surrounded by beautiful plants. They have a friendly culture with an inclusive team who help each other out when there is a need. They are a sociable bunch with an active social club and regular Friday drinks (no pressure to go though). For the coffee lovers they have just installed a brand new coffee machine with 12 different settings to help yourself and take a break.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Your main duties and responsibilities will include:
  • Preparing tax technical research notes on specific areas of income tax law relating to client assignments.
  • Read, interpret and analyse areas of the Income Tax Assessment Acts and other supporting tax literature such as case law, Australian Taxation Office rulings and determinations.
  • Preparing written tax advice, memorandums, emails or similar documents.
  • Maintain active communication with clients where appropriate to manage expectations, ensure client satisfaction and make sure deadlines are met.
  • Manage appropriate queries for tax alliance members on various tax issues.
  • Involvement in scoping and quoting particular tax consulting assignments.
  • Involvement in preparation of tax technical presentations for tax alliance seminars and internal training.
  • Attendance and presentation of tax advice to clients.
  • Supervise and delegate from time to time, projects to Senior Tax Advisers.
  • Adhering to the highest degree of professional standards and client confidentiality.
  • Communicate and network with team members from other service lines.
THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT
  • Bachelors' degree in Business or Commerce.
  • Ideally CPA or CA qualified and a Masters of Tax or willingness to complete is highly desirable.
  • 5+ years' experience in a similar role
  • A passion and key interest for understanding and applying tax law to client circumstances to achieve genuine outcomes.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to read and interpret new and existing legislation, explanatory memorandum, case law and ATO pronouncements such as Rulings, Determinations, interpretative decisions, practice compliance guidelines and practical statements.
  • Demonstrate a high level of tax technical knowledge.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including an appreciation of the required standards for effective writing and the ability to communicate tax advice in an effective and easy-to-understand way to clients.
  • Proactive in identifying tax issues and opportunities.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to multitask and complete assignments within the time constraints and deadlines.
