The Job

As the Commercial Finance Manager you will provide financial and strategic support to the Directors to ensure they make the best decisions for the business. You are responsible for the end to end accounting function from compliance and monthly reporting to driving the financial planning of the company. You will analyse company performance and risk through accurate budgeting, forecasting and project reporting. An experienced professional with broad knowledge of all accounting, financial and business commercial principles. A strategic thinker and an effective leader who can business partner the SLT offering insights and financial advice.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Assist with providing financial management and budget advice to the Directors, development and construction managers and the wider executive team
• Manage the annual budgeting process and prepare rolling quarterly forecasts.
• Represent the finance division at project meetings, providing expert advice regarding both short term and long term budget and cash flow forecasts.
• Ability to analyse business processes, make recommendations regarding improvements to ensure best practice, implement change in consultation with both internal and external stakeholders
• Prepare and analyse profit & loss, balance sheet and cash flow reporting
• Manage the workflow of the project accounting function
• Monthly WIP reporting on all current projects
• Accurate job costing for all new jobs being tendered for
• Develop and implement accounting and management policies, ensuring compliance with Australian Accounting Standards and commercial best practice
• Direct liaison with the external accountants with the prepared EOY financial statements
• Produce accurate and timely month end performance reports, including variance analysis and explanatory narratives for the Directors
• Initiate process improvements and enhance system integrations for better efficiency and accuracy
• Inventory management, job costing and championing the key business drivers
• Assistance with project evaluations and analysis of feasibility studies for future development projects
• Providing an entrepreneurial flair covering governance, risk management and company secretarial advice to ensure its statutory and legal obligations are met
• In addition to the strategic planning, and proactive risk management, partnering with the Directors in ongoing strategic projects and initiatives
• Leadership of the finance function

Candidate Profile

You are currently CA or CPA qualified with significant experience in Commercial Financial Control within a similar organisation. Technically, your skills are strong coupled with your strong commercial acumen and ability to influence and partner at a strategic level with the SLT. Working in a lean team you are not afraid of being hands on and getting into the detail, while also keep a grasp of the big picture. Your verbal and written communication skills are one of your strengths and you feel confident leading business from a strategic management perspective. Exposure to construction would be advantageous however is not essential.
