The Assistant Financial Controller -or- Financial Controller is responsible for the financial accounting and reporting of the operations of the company’s various real estate investments/fund vehicles.  The investments/funds may include office, multi-family, industrial (logistics), retail, hotel and mixed-use properties.   This position will be part of the European Fund Accounting team that is responsible for the accounting and reporting of the funds to both US and European management teams.

 Essential Duties:

  • Review monthly partner financial data, provide guidance on timing and duties at each level and providing accounting guidance for complex transactions.
  • Manage Dutch companies’ accounting close process to ensure compliance with established timelines and local/statutory GAAP.
  • Perform and/or review consolidation of holding company and underlying fund information for reporting to US and European management teams.
  • Develop and maintain a solid understanding of the Yardi accounting system.  Ensure that all entity information is up to date and correct in Yardi.
  • Aid and assist as needed in recording of fair value adjustments and translation of balances to EUR and USD currencies.
  • Interact with internal and external customers, other accounting team members, asset managers, portfolio managers and all necessary departments to ensure prompt resolution of issues and achieve maximum efficiency of operations.  Develop a solid understanding of the accounting for the assigned portfolio to be viewed as a valuable resource for others working with the portfolio.
  • Assist in forecasting of monthly financial results and cash projections based on budgets and known trends.  Review budget to actual results and advises management of trends.
  • Manage and facilitate investor reporting for current and future investor requirements in conjunction with US-based investor team
  • Prepare and/or review Dutch statutory financials, VAT returns, and annual tax returns
  • Prepare accounting memos and position papers in cooperation with US-based technical accounting team.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to others concerning accounting procedures and policies.
  • Assist with audit requirements as needed.
  • Assists with special projects and other related duties as may be assigned by European Finance Director.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance.
  • 5+ yrs. Accounting experience w/ solid fundamental accounting skills
  • 3+ years of relevant commercial real estate accounting experience.
  • Real Estate fund/joint venture accounting experience strongly preferred
  • CPA, RA or equivalent strongly preferred
  • Strong Excel skills, Yardi familiarity a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Qualifications may warrant placement in a different job level
