Robert Walters - New Role - Public Sector Division - Head of Investment - Permanent

I am currently partnering with a leading Housing Association to secure their new Head of Investment. This role with proactively support with strategic initiatives for the delivery of a robust investment monitoring programme and the associated analysis. The successful candidate will deliver a range of comprehensive investment and financial modelling to aid decision making and business development opportunities alongside of the long term financial plan.

West Midlands based head office but home based contracts can be provided

Hours: 35 per week

Essential Requirement for the Head of Investment:

  • Qualified accountant ACA, ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA
  • Alternatively CFA qualified or working towards is preferential if a qualified accountant
  • Degree educated
  • At least three years' management experience in finance / financial services in a large and complex organisation with substantial capital budgets
  • Complex financial modelling experience and producing financial appraisals for investment decisions
  • Usage of Proval/Sequel or other investment packages

Duties of the Head of Investment:

  • Responsible for managing the Development Finance team, inspiring and encouraging an organisational culture which reflects and embeds company values and encourages people to work to the best of their ability
  • Provide leadership, direction, coaching, management and support to direct reports and their teams, to effectively deliver their team objectives and to develop their potential
  • Hold regular team meetings to focus on delivering team action plans and to promote Group wide performance and activities
  • Regularly monitor and take action in relation to engagement levels of the Development Finance team
  • Lead on investment appraisal and financial modelling and analysis
  • Deliver a comprehensive set of performance monitoring reports for the group's investment portfolio and support the production and implementation of a Group Investment
  • Provide business partnering support to the Development Teams including existing and new development companies
  • Overseeing preparation of the annual Group Capital budget in terms of new investment
  • Monitoring and preparing reports for the Group's capital expenditure
  • Provision of effective financial services including, development scheme appraisal and accounting, monitoring of development scheme expenditure, capital cash forecasts, investment portfolio updates for long term financial plan and sales and disposals reporting
  • Delivering the agreed financial performance and KPIs for operational activities reflected in the Group's business and financial plans
  • Support the Group's Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) reporting by overseeing the production of investment related information
  • Planning, setting, monitoring and effectively managing relevant budgets for the team, in line with delegated authority guidelines and financial standing orders
  • Oversee the Value for Money action plan for the Development Finance function, ensuring this is kept up to date at all times
  • Support the Director of Strategic Initiatives to provide planned/scheduled and ad hoc updates and reports to Board, Committees, ET, SLT and operational levels in the business
  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with other sector organisations, regulatory bodies, legal professionals and any other appropriate HR professionals
  • Maintain and monitor relationships with key service providers and oversee procurement, update and renewal of contracts as appropriate
  • Research, develop and make recommendations in relation to improving the Development Finance service for the Group
  • Promote the use of technology within the team and the wider Group, including encouraging a paperless environment and best use of relevant systems
  • Deliver a robust financial monitoring and reporting service for all group commercial and investment activities
