Assistant Vice President / Vice President- Sponsor Finance Group

Byline Sponsor Finance ("BSF"), a division of Byline Bank headquartered in Chicago, IL or Charlotte, NC, works to provide senior secured cash flow loans to private equity backed lower middle market companies throughout the United States. BSFG focuses its efforts on companies that generate EBITDA between $2 million and $10 million. Products support the acquisition, recapitalization, and growth investment efforts of private equity firms operating in the lower middle market.

Key Areas of Responsibility:
  • Lead the underwriting of credit facilities, including: preparation of written documents (internal underwriting memos, term sheets, lender presentations), communication with transaction stakeholders (internal management, subordinated lender, the private equity sponsor, and the target company)
  • Assist in the legal documentation and closing process
  • Prepare and manage financial models to support underwriting transactions
  • Conduct industry research to supplement diligence materials and third-party reports
  • Organize, review, and present transaction due diligence
  • Identify and analyze underwriting risks
  • Lead the preparation and presentation of monthly portfolio company reviews
  • Proactive problem solving, client interaction, and active daily management of a portfolio of accounts

The Assistant Vice President / Vice President will be involved in all aspects of due-diligence including review of deal materials, preparation of screening memos, underwriting of new transactions, financial modeling, and independent research. Post-closing, this individual will be involved in monitoring the portfolio which includes trend analysis, interacting with company management, and presenting monthly reports. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of credit underwriting, deal structuring, and can demonstrate an ability to balance detail with broader issues, in both written and oral communication. This individual will be able to draw thoughtful and relevant conclusions based on their analysis of new transactions and portfolio accounts, and can effectively communicate their findings both verbally and written.

  • BA/BS in finance, accounting, economics or a related field
  • Minimum of five years of relevant work experience
  • Experience in accounting and financial analysis with proficiency in financial modeling
  • Robust analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and manage time and workload efficiently
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail
  • Ability to interact on a direct basis with financial sponsors, junior capital providers and intermediaries
  • Understanding of loan documentation and credit structures
  • Demonstrate effective working relationship with teammates
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Prior cash flow lending experience or transaction accounting experience
  • Advanced degree (MBA) or finance or accounting designation such as CFA, CPA, preferred
