  • People and Culture Division are currently advertising positions in Payroll and People Services.


    The Payroll Services Branch provides corporate support in the areas of pay and entitlements (Payroll Services), organisational structure management, and system support. In addition, it provides finance services relating to management of staff debt and overpayments. Payroll Services operates from two sites - Canberra and Melbourne, providing Payroll related services to all state and regional offices, encompassing all areas of the Department of Home Affairs.

    People Services

    The People Services Branch is directly responsible for HR operations related to recruitment services, case management, culture, diversity and inclusion initiatives,employee development including the delivery of leadership and APS core skills training andproviding advice on complex conditions of service.

    About the roles:

    The majority of APS5 vacancies exist in Payroll and Recruitment functions. Within the Payroll function, an APS5 Senior Payroll Officer is accountable under limited direction to complete tasks as part of a larger pay team which is responsible for undertaking a range of payroll activities in line with relevant legislation, established policy, work practices and procedures. Working as part of a team, and reporting to an APS6 Payroll Manager, tasks will range from being moderately complex to complex in nature,successful candidates must be able toexercise initiative and judgement under limited guidance.

    The APS5 Senior Recruitment Advisor is responsible for a range of duties which contribute to efficient and effective service delivery to business areas in accordance with section priorities, productive stakeholder relationships, ongoing improvements to practice, a higher performing culture and staff accountability. This position supports the delivery of section priorities and is accountable for the management of recruitment activities including the tasking and performance management of APS4 staff and contributing to the continuous improvement of operational processes.

  • Specific duties/responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and perform a range of procedural and administrative payroll/recruitment activities, in accordance with relevant legislation, policy and established procedures and guidelines
  • Maintain data integrity and accuracy in recording specific information in a timely manner
  • Apply technical and subject matter expertise to provide clear advice and support to stakeholders and clients
  • Self-manage workload by meeting deadlines, making decisions within parameters and escalate complex issues
  • Manage and monitor a small team, includingindividual and team service level standards and theperformance and development of APS4 team members
  • Provide support and assistance to your direct supervisor, and assistance across the section as directed.
