The opportunity

We have a new vacancy within our Group Head Office Risk team and are looking to appoint a technically astute and self-motivated Risk Manager to be based at the Sydney CBD head offices. The role will be responsible for the support, challenge and advisory from a 2nd line perspective to the Group Finance which includes Group Investments, Group Treasury, Group Financial Control, Financial Performance & Analysis and Group Actuarial.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Risk Manager, GHO is responsible for embedding QBE's Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework across the Group Finance portfolio in QBE's Group Head Office. This Portfolio involves the implementation of change plans, providing specialist advice, aggregating the divisional inputs and control assurance.
  • The 2nd Line opinion on the quality of risk management and remediation of key issues or incidents will be presented to the relevant risk forum prior to each key reporting period. To build this opinion the Risk Manager, GHO will document a clear plan that captures the tasks necessary to mature the information sources whilst also reviewing and challenging source material.
  • Implement a number of change management initiatives to drive stronger 1st line ownership of risk, providing risk insights into strategic decisions and enhancing the independent 2nd line challenge capability.
  • Liaise closely with the Group and divisional Risk teams, Economic Capital Modelling, Global HR, Group Finance, Group Legal, Group Actuarial, Group IT, Treasury and Audit teams to successfully rollout the ERM framework and mature Operational Risk.

  • Your story so far
  • Tertiary qualification in relevant discipline
  • Good knowledge of industry best practice in Enterprise Risk Management
  • Good knowledge of the Finance area including Accounting/Treasury/Advisory/Audit
  • Strong internal controls understanding, including the ability to advise the business on structuring and assessing the effectiveness of their control environment
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements within the insurance/reinsurance industry (preferred)
  • Ability to influence senior leaders and develop relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Ability to provide thought leadership, cross-functional expertise, consulting and support across all levels
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
