Director of Finance vacancy for respected Sussex based Charity

ACA/ACCA/CIMA Qualified Accountant required for a 12 month FTC

Client Details

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Director of Finance to join a leading Sussex based Charity on a 12 month fixed term contract basis.

The successful applicant will be expected to provide strong financial management and control across the Charity, to ensure effective financial governance and successful strategic implementation. To share in the collective accountability and responsibility for leadership of Charity, including:
Leading the development of strategies, polices and plans to discharge the Charities purpose
Monitoring the performance of the Charity, to ensure it meets its strategic objectives and targets
Promoting high standards of propriety, best practice and the efficient and effective use of people and resources
To mobilise, engage and inspire all employees, volunteers and supporters

Description

Ensure the EMT and Trustees can discharge their responsibilities in overseeing compliance with regulatory requirements

To be the accountable executive for all the finance activities of the Charity including planning, budgeting, forecasting, decision-making and monitoring through 2021

To oversee procurement activities of the Charity ensuring service excellence and cost effectiveness, so that budget holders spend the charity's money wisely

Drive the development of financial management methodologies for 2022 to meet organisational needs, support change and ensure robust financial management

Ensure appropriate and effective overall management of risk for the charity

Ensure the development of financial aspects of the Charities strategy and transition planning

To oversee the implementation of effective and useable project, portfolio and programme management across the charity

To support the Audit and Investment Committees and internal and external audit functions

Lead the Directorate teams and manage the above reports.

Take a major role in the leadership of the charity & promote a positive organisation-wide culture linked to our values. Develop the strategy, and to deliver the goals set out in the charity's corporate strategy

Create a climate of trust, constructive challenge and personal and shared accountability for decision making

Commit to building the Executive team through collective and personal development

Ensure organisational decisions are taken with full consideration to strategic priorities and direction

Hold self and all reporting relationships to account through leadership change principles, reviewing, building and aligning these principles with delivery of strategic aims

Ensure compliance with the Charities policies and procedures, statutory obligations (including under GDPR), and best practice.

Effectively monitor annual budgets and performance, ensuring that all activities are delivered on time and within budget; devising, implementing and monitoring charity planning with relevant KPIs designed to achieve continuous improvement and taking appropriate corrective action if required

Continuously seek to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the organisation, collaborating with others to eradicate duplication and ensure resources are redistributed, where required, to achieve the organisation's goals

Undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required by the Chief Executive In common with all posts, ensure compliance with the Charities policies and procedures, statutory obligations and best practice

Profile

Fellowship of Professional Accounting Body (ICAEW, ICAS, ICAI, ACCA, CIPFA, CIMA)

Previously undertaken a similar position within a Third Sector Organisation

Membership of professional business management body or association (IoD, CMI)

Setting relevant policy, processes and controls and providing professional expertise, advice and guidance at the highest level

Significant experience of developing and implementing successful organisational and financial plans in line with an organisation's purpose and resources

Significant knowledge of a cross-section of legislation, regulations and financial issues relating to the not for profit environment.
