The Commission

The Commission adds long-term value to the South Australiancommunity by meeting its objective through independent, ethical andexpert regulatory decisions and advice. We are a statutoryauthority established as an independent economic regulator andadvisory body to protect the long-term interests of SouthAustralian consumers with respect to the price, quality andreliability of essential services.

Our role incorporates licensing, consumer protection, servicestandards, pricing, monitoring, compliance and public reporting inthe water, electricity and gas industries, and access regulation ofessential ports and rail infrastructure. We also provide advice andconducts Inquiries to inform the South Australian Government oneconomic and regulatory policy issues.

The Commission and the South Australian public sector promotediversity and flexible ways of working, including part-time, remoteand hybrid working arrangements.

The Commission has a rare opportunity for a new Director,Consumer Protection and Pricing to join our team at an excitingtime in our history.

The Director, Consumer Protection and Pricing is a keyleadership position within the Commission, managing and deliveringthe critically important work of the Consumer Protection andPricing Group. Responsible for the management and delivery of theCommission's regulatory design and implementation functions,this role has a focus on providing leadership to the Group andacross the organisation, high-level strategic advice and theeffective development and implementation of key areas of regulatorywork, including: service standards, consumer protectionrequirements, pricing determinations and access and competitionreviews.

The position

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, and with direct accessto Commissioners and close working relationships with otherDirectors, a critical part of your role will be in engaging withconsumers and consumer groups, government, industry and otherregulatory bodies, including other regulatory organisations, inorder to effectively deliver the Commission's objectives andwork program.

We are seeking applications from dynamic executives withoutstanding interpersonal communication skills who can demonstrateexceptional senior leadership and management outcomes, preferablyfrom within a regulatory environment. You will understand the legaland methodological frameworks underpinning South Australia'seconomic regulation, or be able to demonstrate the ability to havesuccessfully and rapidly transitioned into a complex environmentakin to that of the Commission. This may include significant changeor reform experience at a State or Commonwealth level, or fromwithin the private sector.

You will have proven advocacy, relationship management andrepresentational skills at all levels, a commitment to ethicalpractices and behaviours, experience managing complex functions andstrong planning, project management and budget management skills.This is an exceptionally exciting position, available for the firsttime since 2010, which delivers a critically important function toSouth Australians from within a highly dynamicenvironment.
