Responsibilities:
  • The Business Analyst (BA) becomes involved with the client before project initiation in the project conceptual phase
  • The BA acts as lead to other business analysts in large, complex projects, consults with other business analysts and clients on organisation cross-boundary projects
  • The BA acts as the client relationship manager and is responsible for consulting with the business to understand its problems, opportunities, goals and objectives, define the business needs for new and/or enhanced products, services or optimised business processes
  • The BA works closely with the project managers and business technology specialists in developing the appropriate solution to meet the business need
  • In addition to performing many business analyst activities, a lead will coordinate and oversee the work of other BAs as it relates to a specific project
  • Responsible for defining the business need across the organisation/enterprise and not just for a specific department or business unit
  • Includes the scoping of several inter-related initiatives and helping senior-level business stakeholders make informed decisions about which initiatives to tackle and how to tackle them
  • Focus is not just on the IT Business Analysis, but includes the analysis of business process and organizational change
  • Ability to tackle projects across multiple domains and handle new business domains with the same level of confidence as familiar ones
  • Part of leading multiple business analysts also means mentoring the junior and mid-level business analysts in the team
  • Viewed as an expert on the process and best practices for conducting requirements practices
  • Responsible for maintaining a deep awareness of how a business operation works and helping the stakeholders explore technology possibilities to execute more effectively on their roles
  • Utilises expertise in strategic planning, tactical execution, project management, process management and business systems requirements definition to implement IT solutions
  • The BA acts as auditor of documents and models produced by other business analysts to ensure quality, consistency, and completeness of information.
  • The BA is an active participant for the life of the project through all phases and will be required to mentor Business Analysts and to advocate for the business whilst working closely with a variety of internal and external business partners
  • Gathering requirements through Workshops & Needs Analysis sessions

  • Through a significant in-depth knowledge of business analysis skills and techniques; knowledge and use of technology and applications and in-depth business knowledge, the BA will:
    • Act as a champion to changes within the business analysis profession and to motivate business analysts in continuous development
    • Assists project leadership in identifying potential project plan variances
    • Consult with business stakeholders on business needs, issues and concerns.
    • Facilitate communications between business and IT
    • Lead requirements planning activities and monitor and manage requirements throughout the project lifecycle
    • Manage the communication plans for project and stakeholders during project phases
    • Monitor industry activities and identify and recommend potential solutions and opportunities
    • Recognise and manage business trade-offs, conflicts, and market pressures.
  • Publish and manage ongoing, timely daily reports, summaries of KPI's, and actual performance to business plans/goals, other ad hoc projects including key tactical and strategic initiatives
  • Ensure the integrity of and validate the data supplied by the various teams, the systems and other databases used to report metrics and performance
  • Serve as the initial point of contact for the reporting of issues with operations, data, existing KPI's and act as the primary decision maker for the prioritization of real-time issue resolution
  • Collaborate with operations and business leadership to develop, test, and implement new key performance metrics and conduct ad hoc root cause analyses
  • Act as a source of operations and supply chain knowledge and problem-solving capabilities to deliver sound analyses, recommendations, and actionable improvement programs across the organization
  • Work with other departments of the business such as Finance, IT, Business Divisions and HR as needed for routine reporting of KPI's, continuous improvement and ad hoc projects
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement (people, process or technology) to increase efficiency within the specific projects. Assisting in the periodic reviews of the various activities performed in order to improve the quality and productivity of services provided to the business
  • Support and assist in the automation of data collection, reporting and dashboards to reduce costs, improve accuracy and service level in order to free up the BA's time so additional value added work and projects can be completed to better serve the business

Experience:
  • 8+ years experience in the analysis and design of Enterprise solutions
  • 8+ years experience in process analysis and mapping
  • 5+ years experience in co-/leading projects
  • Knowledge in project/program management, portfolio management methodologies and tools
  • Must possess very strong business acumen
  • At least 2+ years experience working in the Financial Services sector specifically banking sector


Education:
  • Matric - Mandatory
  • Relevant tertiary education (degree/honours)
  • Advantageous qualifications/certifications:
    • IIBA
    • PMI
    • ITIL
    • Cobit
    • Scrum or Agile related
