What is the Role?

As a Prompt Planning Analyst, you will solve a new problem every day: how to optimise the dispatch of a power station, model how renewable output changes with weather patterns and calculate the variability in SSE's energy market revenue to name a few. No day is the same in this exciting and dynamic role.

This is a challenging role which provides the rare opportunity of both operational and analytical experience and the chance to add considerable and quantifiable value to the business. You will also collaborate with colleagues to enhance and maintain existing models used to assist short term trading and plant scheduling decisions across a large multi-asset portfolio including hydro, wind and thermal stations, as well as monitoring out-turn performance.

You will learn how the GB electricity and gas markets operate, understand how trading is used to stabilise revenue, all while developing your knowledge across many different disciplines, working for a company at the forefront of tackling climate change; currently building with worlds biggest offshore windfarm, developing carbon capture/storage project for sustainable flexible generation and exploring opportunities for natural energy storage, building on our heritage in hydro electric power.

The working hours of this role are 07:00-15:30 to align with energy market opening hours.

What do I need?

To be successful in this role you will ideally be educated to degree level in a STEM, Economics or Finance discipline. You will know your way around a spreadsheet, have an eye for detail and have the ability to understand and model complex processes. You will have good interpersonal skills in order to work collaboratively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. A working knowledge of Python & SQL would useful but not essential.

About our Business
