This Finance Business Partner (FBP) role is a newly created role in the GL finance team to help support the business on all commercial finance matters with a specific focus on supporting our product, development and corporate functions including the financial management of our critical long term development/capex projects.

The role is an exciting opportunity for a newly qualified (or advanced part qualified) CIMA candidate to join a fast paced, high growth company where they will be able to play a direct and active role in influencing the direction and management of a business. GL is a PE owned, small headcount but high growth and high margin business and this would suit an individual who is comfortable in a fast paced, energetic environment and is a natural self-starter, who wants to take on more responsibility and be more directly involved in activities than they perhaps would be in a bigger, corporate environment at this stage in their career.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Overall responsibility for providing commercial finance support to the product, development and central management parts of the business
  • Play the role of mini CFO on the supported departments management teams, ensuring they are well integrated into the parts of the business they are supporting
  • Be able to explain trading and operational performance for their areas on a monthly basis and support the teams they are working with on driving operational performance
  • Forecasting, planning and budgeting
  • Business case development and support and reporting on project actuals vs plans
  • Financial support for critical projects
  • Development and ongoing management of KPI's and other performance metrics
  • Working with the Head of Commercial Finance to give performance updates and give confidence challenges are being appropriately handled
  • Likely M&A exposure and involvement in exit process with majority investor sell the business
  • No line management responsibility

Key Skills/Behaviours:

  • Experience of working on or managing projects would be an advantage
  • Strong cost management experience - teams this role will support do not drive revenue directly
  • Experience of working in or with development/technology teams advantageous
  • Good modelling skills and ability to transform discussions around plans and strategies into tangible business cases
  • Commercial thinker who considers operational and commercial stakeholders as part of their role
  • Good communicator who is comfortable and confident building relationships upwards and downwards
  • High energy and fast paced
  • An ability to multi task, prioritize and see things to conclusion
  • More gravitas and maturity than the norm for someone at this level of their career given interactions with senior stakeholders
  • A good blend of being able to inspire confidence and work independently but also know when and how to ensure upwards stakeholders are kept in the loop
  • Analytical thinker who considers different options for problems
  • Comfortable having difficult conversations but in a collaborative and constructive way
  • Can demonstrate ability to work with different audiences, often working through the same things in different ways, appropriate to those audiences
  • Comfortable spending most of their time embedded in and working with the commercial parts of the business
  • A pro-active thinker who doesn't just wait to be told how to do something but drives the thought process of how to do it

Education & Qualifications

  • CIMA qualified or "advanced" part qualified
  • Upwards career trajectory demonstrating range of experiences in career to date
  • Degree from a leading university
  • Strong commercial acumen, gravitas and the ability to confidently operate with senior internal and external stakeholders as well as an ability to adopt a "sleeves rolled up" attitude when required
