What we're doing
The Tax Manager sits within the Finance and Business Services Group, headed up by the Chief Financial Officer. The Finance and Business Services team, orFaBSas we like to call them, is the engine room of the REA Group. The team is comprised of Finance, Risk, Procurement, Pricing, Contracts, Customer Collections, Payments, Facilities Management and our Customer and Business Systems IT development teams.
The Tax Manager will be a key business partner & leader in the REA Finance Team. They will work alongside the core Finance Team with a focus on delivering tax advice to the REA Australian and international businesses including tax advisory and structuring projects, transfer pricing, M&A and tax compliance including tax-effect accounting requirements (both at the stand-alone company and consolidated Group level). The role will also encompass evaluating and implementing processes for compliance with the tax governance framework and policies.
The role further supports the Finance Team in the following ways:
Act as in-house specialist taxation advisor for REA for all taxes including income tax, GST/VAT, FBT and other taxes as required (both Australian and international)
Ensure REA's tax compliance, tax reporting (actuals and budget/forecast) including tax-effect accounting requirements are met to high standards, both on a stand-alone company and consolidated group level
Service requirements of audits/reviews conducted by regulatory authorities - anticipate matters that could give rise to disputes with authorities and make recommendations to Executive Manager - Global Tax
Lead REA's tax R&D documentation and application process
Drive excellence in tax governance processes and controls - ensure ongoing compliance with tax protocols including leading REA tax transparencyinitiatives
Assistin preparing and updating transfer pricingdocumentationfor the REAGroup
Provide tax technical and advisory support on growth / expansion opportunities including M&A, disposals andrestructuring
Deal independently with external advisory firms (tax, audit/accounting, legal) - challenge/debate advice received to ensure alignment with REA's tax riskappetite
Assist across the REA Finance Team pro-actively where possible, as required and directed by the Executive Manager - Global Tax
Identify and implement tax strategies and initiatives across REA's business and growthprojects
Drive excellence by promoting and supporting business improvement measures (including tax compliance systems and processoptimisation) and in doing so build awareness and knowledge of tax issues throughoutREA
Ensure proper document retention processes to meet regulatory requirements and to protect legal professional privilege. Ensure ease of access to information by current and future taxteams
Who we're lookingfor
Minimum 8-12 years large corporate tax experience gained in a professional accounting firm (Chartered - Big 4 or second tier) and/or multinationalcorporate
Experience in advising on large corporate taxation matters, including cross-border and international tax issues (e.g.transfer pricing, controlled foreign company (CFC) rules, thincapitalisation)
Ability to independently manage core tax compliance obligations, including preparing company tax returns and tax reporting for large listed corporate groups (e.g.Australian consolidated groups)
Familiarity with ATO audits, preferably with experience with Top 100 taxpayers and justified trust, pre & post lodgment reviews
Experience in reviewing contractual agreements for tax sensitive issues, including customer contracts & share purchaseagreements
Experience in undertaking internal tax governance reviews for multinational businesses and large listed corporategroups
Experience in reviewing tax returns for foreign jurisdictions
Experience in implementing tax risk management procedures for large listedcorporates
Demonstrated leadership in driving achievement of global tax projects/deliverables
Experience in digital/tech and financial services industries (preferred, not mandatory)
