A prominent Australian Investment Bank is currently hiring a Senior Tax Advisor into their growing tax function. Reporting into the Group Head of Tax, the Senior Tax Advisor will be responsible for working with senior stakeholders across the business, providing tax advice across multiple areas including M&A, transactions, new products, restructuring, and tax planning.

The Senior Tax Advisor position is an integral role for the organisation, and requires someone with extensive experience providing tax advice within banking. It would suit a Senior Manager or Director making their first move from big 4, or alternatively candidates with in-house tax experience within banking.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Accountable for tax technical advice including strategic tax advice on acquisitions, disposals, restructuring and other business-related activities, tax planning
  • Support the Trading Desks and Corporate teams in identifying tax issues on new markets or products
  • Developing and executing an annual strategy and work program for the tax team, taking into account the overall Group Tax strategy
  • Approve tax risks for new business initiatives / transactions as delegated by the Head of Tax under the group Tax Risk Governance Policy
  • Responsible for assessing the impact of tax law development / legislative change and developing the strategy, tax policy and processes for the organisation to address the changes. This includes dialogue with the business, finance and other group functions
  • Ensuring tax advice is provided efficiently and concisely


  • Key Requirements:
  • CA or relevant tax qualification
  • Significant (8+ years) tax advisory experience within banking, either from a big 4 firm, law firm or in a banking tax advisory team
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Deep knowledge of Australian tax law
  • Strong stakeholder management skills
